OT:Congressional Medal of Honor

Hey folks,
about a year and a half ago, a 19 year old kid from PA died saving his buddies in Iraq. He was awarded the Medal of Honor last week. I won't give any names or town, but you can google the story if interested. I live and work in the community where he was stationed and heard the story several times. As much as the folks back home whine and complain about the situation today, you don't hear it here. You can be real proud of the kids protecting your freedom.

He grew up just down the road from me, have known his family all my life.

we attend the same church. Good people.

My dad served 20 yrs in the Airforce as did James' dad. My mother's brother did a hitch in the Navy. My dad's brother did 20 in the Army. James did a hitch in the Airforce. James and I shake the hand of every military person we see and tell them thank you for what they do. Regardless of whether you agree with the war in Iraq, our military people are the reason we are free. Thomas Jefferson said "the best defense is to have the best offense" and ours is the best.

Just got back from having lunch with the wounded soldier unit in our Garrison. Nice, sunny, and not too hot. Steaks and bratwurst on the grill, homemade ice cream, and alcohol free beer (unleaded German beer still beats bud light hands down ;)) Sad to see some of them, but they are full of spirit. The damage isn't always physical though, keep that in mind when your Reserves and National gaurds start to come home.

Take Care,

Dave

Myself, my Brothers, our Father, and Grandfathers
going back to 1776 have served in our nations
armed forces, but I fail to see how serving in
Mr Bush's Iraq war is "Protecting our Country"

That is the problem, good people get sent into
unneeded wars for good of the powerful people, not
for the good of the good people.

My 2 brother-in-laws were recalled to active duty in 1950 after serving during WW2, they both stayed in and retired. My brother joined the Air Force in 1951 and I got got drafted in 1953. Had 4 uncles that served during WW2. My wife said it made a man out of me. Hal

Why don't or didn't anyone ever complain about Clinton's attack on Yugoslavia? Melosavitch or how ever you spell it, had not attacked or assisted in attack or threatned us or made safe haven to anyone for any of the above? BEATS ME. He had not even attacked his neighbors

OH, I forgot, the Clintons can do no wrong.

because he didn't activate a bunch of reserves that had been freeloading on the taxpayers for ions. People have to do a little work and take a little risk, they start squeeling like mice.
I've spent 7 weeks in the States in the last 18 years. If I get homesick, I just log into my hometown newspaper or read some input on a few forums. Instant cure............. I here Soldiers talking everyday about not wanting to go back home because of the attitude of some of the sheep.
I guess it's been that way for about every war though. God Bless America and God Bless Our Troops!!!

Have a good weekemd,

Dave

Greygoat: Have you forgotten 9-11? I will admit mistakes were made, but the war on terror is real. If you don't believe it , I'll let you talk to my SIL that just got back from Afghanistan(the forgotten war). If we don't stop this terrorism now our children and grandchildren may not be able to.

And let's not forget today--D-Day. Because of those brave brothers in arms, we have the right to express our opinions here, AND do it in ENGLISH!!!

THANK YOU fellow veterans!!!!!!

dave2,
You need to give us guard and reserve soldiers some respect too. Are you putting down what us guard and reserve brothers do? Just curious because it sounds like it. If I am taking it wrong please clear this up.
I guess my purple heart earned on july 17,2004 at sword/irish intersection in baghdad does not mean that much? I do believe my national guard blood is just as good as the full time guys, right?
Maybe you should rethink that comment.
For the naysayers about this war. We haven't been attacked by a terrorist since the start of the war. Meaning whether you like it or not by us being over there you, your family and your neighbor has been protected by keeping the terrorist on the defensive. My question to you is until we win the war on terrorism: would you rather a soldier who joined freely and swore to protect, give his life for our protection or would you rather your wife, small child, frail parent or grandparent die to a roadside bomb?
Believe me, I lost the soldier in the same vehicle and came a hair's breathe away myself. I would assure you I would rather it be me over there than my wife and two year old over here.
You have to have it one way or the other. At this point after 9/11 there is only one way. Face up to it and quit looking thru jaded blinders.
Also, this external_link UTOPIA that people are dreaming about centering on just walking away from Iraq is just a pipe dream. It will never happen.
I praise God every day like for this soldier that won the CMOH. He earned his freedom and was not a "freedom freeloader" like other people who did not serve but want to armchair general this war.

No offense meant if you're serving (or served) and acted like a soldier. You see deadbeats on both sides (full time and reserve). I guess what I meant was, this war disrupted a lot more lives than the Balkans did. If I hurt your feelings or rubbed you wrong, it wasn't intended.
