Hey ya"ll.I asked a question on a cattle site and someone recomended this one.The tractor in question is a friend of mines who is not on the internet. He has a 70"s model Ford 6000 that slung a rod and he wants too haul it to the scrapyard.Problem is he says it has some kinda safety deal where the rear wheels wont roll unless the motor is running. He tried to load it on the trailer with his backhoe but it was too heavy. This is about all I know about the tractor being it"s not mine but if this is the case ,seems there would be away to disengage it.I"ve never heard of such but he"s not an idiot so something must be up.Has anyone heard of this?

First of all the 6000 was only produced until the mid sixties. And it has a traction disconnect lever that has to be repositioned to move the non running tractor.I'm sure someone that owns one can tell you what to look for.

On a 5000, the traction disconnect is on the right side, by your heel as you sit on the tractor...BUT, as the 5000 and 6000 are completly different, I can't say for sure which side it's on for a 6000. Should be in the vacinity of your heel as you sit on it, though.
Rather than hauling it to a scrapyard, why not advertise it on the classifieds or photo ads here first? Might be able to get a few more dollars that way, and have it go to someone who will repair it or use it's parts to keep another 6000 going. There are a couple guys on the Ford board (on this site) who own 6000's. Post your (its)location, too, if you advertise it. (may not even have to run an ad- just mention it on the Ford board... if someone is close enough, they'll probably be interested.)

Many of the engine parts are same as Ford 223 6 cyl. truck/pickup from the 60s.I think the 242 diesel used the same parts as gas except for pistons. Can"t tell you how to get it to coast.

Ditto what the others said.. there is a traction disconnect.

and also mega ditto on the not scrapping it.

These tractors had the SOS trans.. I'll bet there are farm more 6000's with great engines and bad trans. than ones with bad engines and working trans.

Your friend could likely get higher than scrap $$ and help out someone needing parts all in one deal.

Left side --under the floor board -- just ahead of the axel housing---Some one can use the parts --I'd advertise it --where you located???
