Would you reccomend an Oliver 1655

Tractor is diesel, 4500 hours, hydrual shift, runs good, hydraulics, PTO all good, steering and transmission tight, clutch feels good. Only things that seem horribly wrong are the rear tires and the paint, and the price $5,500. Without actually seeing it, would you reccomend me trying to get this or should I walk away. We've alyways had Masseys, and I've only ever dealed with Perkins Diesels, but I would like to have an Oliver, especially seeing how I missed out on a Minneapolis Moline this spring, but that might come again later. Anyway, opinions welcome.

I have one and they very nice tractors. You'll like the power. Price isn't real bad but you should try to bring it down some considering the tires--I'm assuming you mean the cleats are wore off.
 
probably the best tractor Oliver ever built. Just a pleasure to run. There is a million of them out there so parts are readily available and any tractor mechanic can work on them. I don't know about the price but like I said there are many out there so maybe do a little comparison shopping.
 
Work on him at the price.At least get him down to 5 grand.Many many dealers and owners say the 1650/1655 were some of Oliver's finest.Good power,versatility and real nimble.

We have a 1650 gasser and a diesel.Virtually the same without the 55 series updates.
 
Seems kinda high. I bought a real nice 2390 Case three years ago for $6400. Had 90% rear 20.8 radials, duals, heat/ac, and everything worked. Real clean and no leaks what so ever. I guess it really depends on how much horse you need though. I assume a 1655 is about 65 horse? Seems that size tractor brings that kinda money. We had two 2255's and they were great when they didn't have a blown hydraulic line or some other sorta problem. Always working on them. If it weren't for the Cat's in em they would have left much earlier. Currently have an 1800 gas and it is really a great tractor. Still $5500 seems high.
 
Like others have said a little high if it needs tires right away but it is a good model.I have a 1650D very dependable.Also the 18.4 X 34 tires can be found used reasonable sometimes
