Folks I'm getting a little older now and notice my knees starting to hurt when I first stand or do a lot of walking / bending. I've heard fish oil will may help; a teaspoon in the morning and agina at night.
I know we have some hard workin' people on this forum who have to keep on going, even with a little pain. Any suggestions / remedies for some pain relief other than doctors and surgey.

Thanks and have a great "painless" day....

Something that doesn't taste like fish oil and is high in omega 3 oil that you need and might try if you can't stand the fish smell is flax.Bought a loaf of Aunt Millie's flax bread. Pretty tasty stuff with a little "chew" to it.Lots of ways to include flax in your diet.

Couple of links for you.Lots of health benefits to using flax listed here.

glucosamine chrondroitin with MSM works good for joints. Dont feel better for the first month but after that it takes effect. After the 3rd month its done all its going to do for you. You keep taking it but you wont get much better or worse. MSM is a sulphur lubricant for joint tissue. That's the way it works for me anyhow. Your mileage may vary.

I have heard to take the fish oil in a pill and to freeze it. It won't thaw out til it has gone through the stomach, and no belching fish oil.

2x4--I took this for several months and didn't realize the benefits until I started hurting again. I said something to my wife about my knees hurting again and she informed me that I told her not to get any more because of the cost. Guess what--I started again and in about one month--NO PAIN. Guess it works different for different people.

I had a problem with my knees aching, quit eating beef and in about a month noticed the difference. Now, I eat beef only once a week and do not have any problems with my knees.

Try blue emu. It is not cheap, available at Walmart, but has no odor. Apply directly to offending part-works really well. Greg Note to self-we are almost out and NEED to get more!

Best to take glucosamine chrondroitin with MSM on a permanent basis. We buy one at Costco. Helps with lubing the joints, and helps to keep cartlidge from wearing out. Maybe can avoid knee replacement if you start taking it early enough. Tom

I'm not a real fan of Physicians either after one almost killed me last October but anyways...........
Sometimes it isn't what hurts but a symptom of something else.
It would not have mattered how much fish oil, elixirs and cures in a bottle for my knee. Nothing other than surgery would have removed a couple of floaters and smooth off a torn cartilage edge that was grabbing. Left longer it was only going to get worse.
Surgery on knees and shoulders isn’t so bad anymore. Being scoped usually lets you walk home . It’s not like the bad old days when they opened the joint entirely up and recovery was months instead of days.
Of course if we were all slim trim weighing what we should, the knees and hips would last much longer

"a Gina at night" and you'll forget about your knees. One way or the other.
A joke, not to critize the keyboardo.

Agree with TomTex and 2x4 - glucosamine chrondroitin with MSM.

Nancy bought some for one of our older dogs that was 'loosing' his back legs.

I started taking the old dog's medicine and a lot of my pain went away.

The only side effect was that I started laying in the yard and chasing cars.

AS one that has been thru all that only to have both knees replaced by titanium ones ( two shoulders also) and has a son who is an orthopedic surgeon the best recommendation is the glucosamine condroiten MSM combo. As stated it takes several months to see the real benefit. It not overnite. If you are taking a pill for cholesterol control (especially Zocor, ) it can cause joint pain. Even with my metal knees I had to switch from Zocor to another medication. Nuff said Henry

I have had bad knees for about 15 years and found out I need a hip redo about three years ago. I asked the doctor how long I could put off the hip replacement and he said as long as I could put up with the pain. I started glucosamine chrondroitin shortly after and have very little problems with the hip or the knees. I am convinced.

I have to add one BIG caution here if you are allergic to oysters DO NOT take glucosamine. It is made from oyster shells and will mess you up bad. It happened to me.

glad to hear you're better. Several people I know claim it helped them also. Didn't know about the oyster shell thing Larry mentioned tho.
