PTO and Belt Pully RPMs

Hello; I have a Farmall "C" with a PTO and a Belt Pully Drive. The RPM's for the PTO is much slower than 540rpm's while the pully drive seems about 540rpm"s. I want to use the PTO for a bush hog but need more RPM's. Anyone out there seen this before? Can I exchange gears to get the 540rpm's to the PTO? Thanks much!

The C had a pto speed of 540 and there is no way to speed it up. You must be mixed up somewhere. Does by any chance your gearbox on the mower need a 1000 rpm pto?

The PTO should be 540 RPM's when the engine is running at it HIGH IDLE governed speed. If your PTO is slower than 540 RPM's look to govener speed adjustment on the engine. The speed of the belt pulley is also tied to the speed of the engine.

How are you measuring the RPMs? A shaft tachometer is the only sure way. The max engine rpm is 1400, pto at that speed should be slightly over 540.

That ain't right, the tractor pto should be 540 at near wide open. The belt pully might be 3x that?

No way you want to run things 3x their rated speed.....
