JD 40 T all fuel

I have just traded for a 40 T that was a allfuel from the factor, the only problem is the tag is gone. I would like to know how to get the casting numbers off the block and where to sent them to JD to get the tag number with a paper trail to say it right. And also I would like to know how many were made. And what it would be worth.
 
Howdy Tim. Acording to my buyers guide the 40T-W was made in 1953 thru 1956. The serial numbers went from 60001-75531. It is a two star tractor if you use the star rating system for collecting. The 40T-RC is a three star and the 40T-N is a four star. My book is about 13 years old so you might be able to add a star to each one if they are getting more rare. Also, add a star if it is an all fuel. I'd say the tractor is a 5 star tractor. Get a copy of Green Magazine. It has information on how to contact the archives or bring the archives up on line. rw

The casting number on the block is not unique to your tractor.

Without the tractor's serial number you will not be able to get any info from the Two-Cylinder Club about the specifics concerning your tractor.

There is a ser# stamped in the block on the right side of the block. It won't be the same number that you tractor had, but the engine ser# was recorded at the factory on the Dubuque built tractor. There is a machined flat spot just below the gen. at the front edge of the block. The #'s will read verticle[up and down]. They may be hard to see due to a build-up of paint. take those #'s to your JD Dealer and ask to get ahold of the Territorial Service Rep. He will get the paperwork rolling.
 
Once you get the stamped engine number off the block, go to
www.jd40(dot) com
and you will be able to get an APPROXIMNATION of the serial # and a good guess on build date.
The official inquiry through john deere will tie it down exactly.
