Don't know what to do ,been down since 5/21,rained on 4 times about 3in. total .been tedded twice .Should a guy tedd it again and forget it ,rake and bale even tho it is worthless to get it off. P.S.heavy rain is forecast for this P.M.in central Illinois

tedder it again and bale it. It won't be worthless. Remember, it may not make a cowpile but it will help push one out.

Oh Man, that sucks!

'Bout all a guy can do is roll the crap up and use the bales in the gullies for erosion control.

I've been know to burn hay like that. When you get a stretch of good weather tedd to dry rake and burn the windrows. The seeding always fills back in under the burn. Usually the ground is too wet for the fire to damage the seeding.
Wear a dust mask when you work it. There will be clouds of brown mold spores behind you. Best if you don't fill your lungs with that stuff.

ktheo1,

It's really hard to make a recommendation without actually seeing the damage that has been done to the hay, But, I wouldn't be too eager to throw that hay away. It is hasn't rotted and if it hasn't already molded, I'd think about baling it anyway.

I've had hay get rained on before, and what I've done is bale it and store it in a certain place in one of my hay lofts. Then, during the winter, I've mixed those bales with bales of good hay for feeding my cattle. It won't be the best hay, but the old-timers around here have a saying, "Come winter, it's a damnsight better than feeding snowballs."

Good luck with your decision.

Tried to rake it yesterday and water was still standing in spots ,I was leaving ruts in places so decided I was doing more damage than good so after 2 rounds I quit .

I agree, it would be just as good or better than the rolls of corn slalks that most all cows in the area were kept alive on this year. Hay like that will not fetch $8 a 50lb square for the horse people but it would be worth something to have around next March when that late snow hits.
