Ford 555 Won't Move

Recently purchased 555 was working fine. No
weakness anywhere that I could detect. All at
once after backing into a little dip the drive
wheels don't move. Even when jacked up, no
motion at all. Is the shuttle all mechanical?
It was so sudden I'm thinking electrical if there
is that possibility. A wire leading to the
R Rear axle seemed strecthed but not unplugged.
Does that have anything to do with the drive?
Thanks for any clues.

What model 555 ??? 555, A, , B , C, ?? If it"s a straight "Nickel" , A or B Maybe the torque plate that drives the torque converter tore apart..I"ve replaced many over the years..

Don't know nothing about this machine, but as electrician I would check out a stretched wire. Maybe broken inside insulation or at connectors.

I have looked it over, seems OK. Machine
has resumed normal operation. I have no idea
what is going on.

It's a straight 555. It's working OK now,
I leveled it up and spun the rear wheels checking
maybe for a broken axle. I'm
thinking possibly low fluid. I have only found
one dipstick in the tranny area but I've read
there is a seperate one for the torque conv.

You don't need to waste your time looking for broken axles on that thing. It hasn't power enough to break one.
I'd suspect a problem in the torque or reverser. Low oil level or a dump valve problem.... something along those lines. I don't know the machine well enough as to whether the reverser is electric or manual, but the problem is somewhere in that area...

This one cost me a lot of money. Low voltage or a dead battery could be the cause. The shuttle valve is electric. At least on my 555B backhoe ED

The problem was low oil in the torque converter,
when the machine got on a slope, the pump couldn't pick up oil and drive didn't function.
Previous owner showed me where to check trans.
oil but didn't know about separate supply for
torque conv. I found it under some dirt and
it was 2 gal low. Problem solved. Thanks to
all who responded.
