There is an old windmill type well pump that has been converted over to electric motor to make the pump go up and down . I go tthe motor working, gear box is ok , put some belts on and fired it up . pumps up n down like is should , but no water .Tried priming it , dumped 15-20 gallons down it..No luck ,,I am assuming the leather seals dried up . What next ?? Hate to have to pull it,,,landowner said it was a 300 ft well ? If has to be pulled, can it be converted over to new pressure pump system ? Not sure what size the casing is .

Going with the Franklin variable speed pump has many advantages. It's a three phase motor down the well so there are no start windings or starter switch to fail. The 3 phase motor is smaller per HP and more efficient. Single phase power is fed to the control box, it makes three phase and runs the motor at what ever speed required. Instead of the pump cycling on and off during continuous low flow applications. The motor just slows down some until you shut the tap off. Then the pump motor shuts off. The pump doesn't start when ever you draw a cup of water either, there is still a pressure tank used.
If my pump wasn't a two wire it would have been converted to a SubDrive by now. Unless three hoses are used to water trees and lawn, the pump cycles on and off all day.
There is a manufacture of submersible pumps for 3" casings depending on your well.
lehmans sells just about every kind of deep and shallow hand pump part there is.

You ned some one that has been there befor.
Leathers worn out
Punp rod broken
pipe has hole in it
pipe is broken or unscrewed.. this is the worst and needs an expert to pull the sections with the rod only or you will drop the whole thing.
People arond here are use to doing that sort of thing but call a well man. expect to spend money.
300 foot needs a tower or mast to pull. Get a well man. Deep well submersibles are so much better.

<Big Slap to my Forhead > Yanno ,,,never even thought about that ! How would a guy check that ? Short of pulling pipe/pump out ? Might just be easier to haul water. We use this for hunting , camping,,,just be nice to have shower or running water at times .
