Another anniversary .....58 years ago yesterday...took delivery of my 1966 Chevy Impala SS....still going strong !!
Ordered it from the factory on October 15th 1965 and picked it up from the dealer on Dec. 9th 1965. I have done all the service work on it over the years myself....48 oil changes since new. This year we took it to several cruise nights, Quite a few garage sales (big trunk) and many backroad drives. This summer being so hot we had to pick and choose the days because being young back in 1965 I never thought i would need Air Conditioning and didn't check the box.
Special memory taking my wife Bev home from church after our wedding 57 years ago.
Some interesting prices from the original window sticker : ( Vacuum Pwr Brakes $42.15) ( Rear antenna $9.50 ) ( Dual exhaust $21.10 ) ( Power Steering $94.80 ) ( Tinted Windshield $21.10 ) ( Floor Mats $6.05 )

That's great! In the northeast it would have rusted away long ago unless kept inside 8 months of the year.

Bet you didn't know what it would look like when you ordered it. I have a similar story- ordered a '65 Chevy SS 327, 4 on the floor without knowing what it would look like. Sorry to say I didn't keep it but the one I really wish I still had is the '58 Chevy convertible my sister had.

A friend had a 65 like that,he drove down to Fort Leonard Wood Mo, for boot camp, i rode with him, we parked it in that old guys pasture with his permission, after Basic and AiT , went back hit the key and started up.

I had one like that. Rusted real bad under the rear window, of all places. Traded it for a Plymoth Satellite. It also rusted under the rear window.

Same scenario.......... Bought a 66 Chevelle 396 375hp in the spring of 66 after finishing flight school. New officers have great credit, not much money but we know where you are. Same color combination, maroon and black. My true dream car at the time. I loved that car. Like a complete non thinking idiot I can occasionally display, I sold it when I got orders for Viet Nam in the summer of 67. I could have simply parked it in a shed on the farm, go figure......... Thanks for sharing and digging up some neat ol memories. Larry

Wow! What a story!

Not my favorite Impala SS (64 is) but it is my favorite color, Palomar Red Metallic.

Just guessing: 327/300?

What a beautiful car. Back then cars had such beautiful and individual styling no matter what make it was. Lots of memories when you sit behind the wheel of that machine. I just celebrated 50 years of ownership on my 1973 'Cuda 340 that I ordered new and took delivery on April 18th of '73. Currently has 28,000 miles.Thank you for sharing.

Worked in our small town Chevrolet dealership in 1966 during college etc. Always loved that body style.....I can remember almost every Impala and Caprice that I prepped for customers in 1966. Great times

LittleD, could you tell what made you keep it rather than trading it like everyone usually does?
