It was quite a surprise!!
Im looking for advice. My understanding is this axle came from a military truck (deuce&a half). It's nothing like anything I've worked on before!
The protruding axle stud has a large bearing inside end, a threaded portion near the end, and a large tapered ring fell off too (pics)

The hub is with the wheel, it's greasy, so I can't see much of what's inside. I think i saw another smaller bearing.

I'd like to stick this back together and drive 1.5miles back to the barn. I'm assuming I can take apart the hub from the outside (8 bolts approx 3/4" size) and access the large nut. Then Stick the wheel back on the axle shaft and tighten the nut good.
My concerns: the knuckle started oozing/dripping out a white-ish sauce while it was tilted sideways. What's that?
The axle didn't fall into the dirt. Am I okay to drive on it, just to get home, then clean old grease and fill with new?
Is the large nut left-hand threaded?
The large bearing turned okay. How can I tell if it's broken or too bad to reuse?
Where does the large ring fit on? It has a taper on the inside. Is there an exploded view I can find?
Should I NOT try limping home? The loggers are here and could drag me, if necessary.

You'll be able to tell what the thread is when you get it cleaned up. Some wheels studs are left hand. But I've not seen a left
hand thread on an axle nut. There's always a locking mechanism. A locking plate/washer/nut/etc. I'm guessing that wasn't installed
properly. It makes sense that it was the left side which fell off.

I don't know if it's the same design but I have an old Jeep I was driving 50 miles an hour and the right front wheel came off. In repairing it I was startled by how little was holding it on. It was just one little snap ring.

That happened on my front wheel assist tractor once. On mine, there's an outer wheel bearing, then a
large spanner nut. The nut came unscrewed on it. I was in a panic. I figured I'd done some damage
that couldn't be repaired. I was right in the mud when it happened. I lifted the front end with down
pressure from the loader and got it backed up on dry ground.

Once I got all the mud and grease cleaned up, it was just a matter of putting it back together. The
only damage was to the seal. I got a new one and had to take it back apart to put it in.

That was funny, I particularly liked how he adressed the issue of the danger to the environment. I wish we had real politicians that would talk to news bots like that. Can you imagine what Rather,Brokaw,Jennings,Stahl,Walters,Cafferty,Blitzer,Roberts,Brian Williams,Matt Lauer, Keith Olbermannfuhrer and the like would do?

Get on to steelsoldiersdotcom, and you can find the tech manual for the deuce and a half, also a lot of other stuff to waste your time on, if YT doesnt
use it all.
