Actually about a tractor.

Brought home this treasure on Saturday. I know it doesnt fit in with my Massey Harris theme but thats okay. I have a few other off brands as well. Its going to be a bit of a project but looking forward to it.

Are you sure it's an R model? Looks more like an 820/830. All the pictures I've found of Rs are all green, no yellow on the side of hood or dogleg. The 1 exception was one labeled as a diesel.

Just wondering.

The paint doesn't matter. Lots of Rs and 80s were repainted to look like 820s. And it's easy to tell its an R in this photo. Rs had circle shaped flywheel covers whereas 80s through 830s had tear drop shaped flywheel covers. And the fenders were short on the R and 80 meaning they didn't cover the tire like the 820 and 830.

Nice! First one I saw in person was at a show in Denton ages ago. It was love at first sight! The R reminds me of the built big blocks in the muscle car era. You can feel the ground jarring power from six feet away!

The easy difference is the 4 spoke steering wheel. 80, 820, 830 have 3....You will fall in love with the tractor. I have a '51 & '53 and the '53 will never leave!

Theres only one reason why our 70 didnt have a yellow insert, dad wouldnt let me paint it on .

you got john deere's first diesel tractor model there. came out in 1949. ihc had there first diesel tractor, the wd40 out in 1935 and the td40 tractractor was before that, 1934. the wd40 was actually the first north American diesel tractor. caterpillar 60 was the first diesel engine in around 1931. is yor R in running order?
