Speaking of Controls

Who out there can help me design a control? My homemade outdoor wood boiler has a bimetal damper control in the door, made out of an automatic choke, that opens as the boiler cools, and vice versa. It works really well, BUT. When the fire goes out, the damper is completely open, allowing cold air to run through the stove. The circulating pump is always on, so it is then circulating cool water thru the floor PEX. I'd like to either shut the damper when the stove is out, or shut off the circ. pump. Any suggestions? I can do the work, I just don't have the where-with-all to concoct the right solution. steve

The control that I made for my boiler uses the flue temperature to shut off the boiler when the fire goes out and a timer to start it up. The timer runs long enough for the flue temperature to reach 140. I just used a cheap temperature controller a k thermocouple and a single shot timer

A simple Fan control from a furnace circulating fan (thermo disc) can control a circulating pump. Placing the disc so as the circulating water begins to be warm enough to do good, the disc trips to on. When the water temp goes below the temp the pump shuts off. The disc cannot be placed directly on the flue pipe, (too hot) but a bracket attached to the pipe with several locations allowing adjustment for start temp without overheating the mount/disc is needed. The link shows one capable of dealing with 14 amp motors. Jim
One workable example

Oh, I like those, Jim. I didn't know they came in adjustable. I had one set temp one I was contemplating using, on an adjustable bracket, but I like these better! I was also contemplating a programmable thermostatic controlled outlet like I just bought to keep my Root Cellar above freezing. Thanks. steve
