Do you ever get over Lyme disease

I've been bothered by it since May. It was miss diagnosed until September, then it was 3 weeks of antibiotics. I can now push the clutch and get off and on my Massey 255 but my feet feel now like they are on fire and feel like they have an Ace bandage wrapped too tight on them all the time. I never know when but I get sensations like an ice pick being pushed in different places (they are short lived but do hurt and make me holler). I spent a night in the hospital with the Drs thinking I had had a mini stroke but reading up on the disease, it can mimic one. My energy level is down to near 0. Having said all that, the worst thing by far, I've been on tractors ever since we sold the horses when I was a small boy, but about a month ago I was on my Kubota going down the road and could not remember how to shift the gears, had to stop sit there a minute till it all came back to me. That is scary, so please watch out for those little ticks, they are fierce. Keith

Sorry to hear that, Keith. From what I gather Lyme can have lasting effects on some people. A lot of things can cause neuropathy in the feet. I'm diabetic and my feet feel cold most of the time, sometimes a burning or stinging sensation and brief sharp pains. I hope your condition improves.

It takes a while. My cousin was the first person to be diagnosed with it here in the county. This was over 35 years ago. He thought it would cause him to have to quit farming. After about two years he said he was feeling better than he ever thought he would again. He said he figured all he'd ever be doing was sitting and watching the grass grow. So ya, you can get over it, but it might be a long road.

Keith, You have it much worse than I do. I was diagnosed this July, and because I had a feeling what I had, caught it on first blood test. I got 14 days of doxycyline mono. Went to my regular doctor she declared me cured, WRONG!! I then went to a real Doctor that has , and treats Lyme. He put me back on the Doxycyline for 30 more days and Hydroxchloroquine for, maybe, forever. I did not have it as bad as you,but I am feeling better. Drop me an email and I will give you the Doctors information. I will see him again next week and find out more. Wish you the best, Joe By the way I am in North Central Indiana.

I have a neighbor that had it about 6-8 years ago,It really knock him for a roll, he's now a little weak yet but motivates normal. He was in his late 50's when he got it,but turned the farm, or at least the work over to his younger brother !!!

My cousin had it a couple years ago. He had a bad time for a while. The dr told him it could come back at any time even several years later.

I first contracted it nearly 20 years ago, then got it again about ten years back. I still have lower back and knee pain associated with it from time to time.

Not a doctor by any sense of the word but has your blood sugar levels been checked? I ask because I am diabetic and the leg and foot pains, like stabbing needles, are one of the symptoms of nerve damage from high blood sugars. I suffer from them and they never go away. Will happem at any time day or night.

Never had Lyme. But I did have some needles sticking into various places in my feet. Outside my big toes was the worst. Sometimes the top of my feet. Turned out I had a built up of uric acid in my blood. It tends to crystalize in the feet first. All I had to do was cut down on steak and drink more water.

NOT SAYING this in your diagnosis, just saying lots of things can cause those needles.

I got Lyme Disease last year. My only symptom, my knee swollen up. I got it drained and 30 days of antibiotics. A few months later it came back, the same treatment. Went for more tests after that . I am positive but have no symptoms so they said to come back when something bothers me.

I never had Lyme disease.
A friend had it. Couldn't get over it.
A chemist at a local college, his neighbor, told him how to make some kind of silver solution, make his own meds, and he got over it.

i have a friend that got lyme disease from a tick bite. he was a big strong man. the disease took a lot out of him. he struggled with it for a long time. come to find out, he had 2 different strains he was trying to fight. when they found the first strain of the disease, the drs quit looking. the second strain went untreated for quite a while. it's amazing what a few little bugs can do. my friend was never able to return to work.

I believe a lot depends on how early it is detected and diagnosed. I got Lime about 10 yrs ago, I saw and removed the Tick and then 2 days later the telltale bullseye mark. The Dr. diagnosed Lime and put me on antibiotics right away. I have had no lasting affects to this day. I know several people that were miss diagnosed for several yrs. and have had an awful time.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is an effective alternative to treating Lyme disease. Just do an internet search for Lyme and HBOT and several studies will come up. One such link is:

I have used the HBOT facility in Elmira Ontario and although I have never had Lyme, I know that the facility is very busy around each full moon with Lyme patients. Apparently, the life cycle of the 'baddies' is quite vulnerable around a full moon.

I had it 2 years ago, when I was 70. I went in right away and was diagnosed, got the prescription, and had no aftereffects. Later in the year I was feeling beat up, went it and all they could find was early stages of arthritis, so I went to Arizona for the winter, and everything was fine.

You may want to look into the work of a Dr David Unwin, he practices near Liverpool. He has achieved some remarkable things with diabetic patients.

I was diagnosed with it 30 years ago. Prompt treatment with antibiotics caused the symptoms to go away, but from time to time I have some of the symptoms returning for some reason. Yearly blood testing doesn't show anything, but I haven't asked the doctors to look for Lyme disease.
