Why do you keep all this junk

In your tractors toolbox???

Well, mostly because I do not get around to cleaning it out. But sometimes it comes in handy!

When I was a mechanic for implement dealers, I had two toolboxes that lived with
me in the pickup. One was an OLD TSC box about 18-20 long and six inches square.
The other was an old Deere box not quite as big.
They were full of nuts, bolts, washers, hose clamps, machine screws, cotter pins,
Small pipe fittings, plugs, couplers, anything I thought I might need.
I don't know how many times those boxes saved me. It was usually because of, as long
you're here....

Mainly because I don't want to run to town for a clamp of small piece of hose. I have used short pieces of hose to pad hydraulic lines and sometimes just wanted a short piece. Nuts and bolts are always in demand. Problem is finding the right size or 2 of them. I used to take old machinery just for metal to use of repairs or fabrication.

The way it usually works is you keep something for thirty years and decide to throw it away. Then the next week you have to go out and buy one.

I keep just about everything and have robbed pieces off replaced things often enough to know why. I
have sorted boxes of bolts over 30 years old, still giving me what I need. Every piece of equipment
breaks, bolts snap, tubes rip, hoses burst, tires shread and welds break. Breakdowns happen, we fix
them and keep rolling. I admit keeping so much random stuff is junky but not having a part you need is
unacceptable.

as seen in my last post ,several coffee cans full of needed items some toss away. i
hate driving 15 miles 1 way for 1 half dollar item

After losing a spring clip from the 3 pt drawbar in the woods, I always keep a few tied up with either baling twin or wire in the tractor toolbox. I was lucky that day - happened to have an old screwdriver that I shoved into the end of the drawbar to get the tractor and load of firewood home.

Why do you keep all this junk?

So we can haul it to the recycler when we get the
urge.
I hauled $110 worth of junk last week.
I enjoy the extra space getting rid of the junk.

In case no one figured out the picture, it is a sheared 3/8 bolt being repurposed with 2 nuts. Lucky I did not toss it when it broke 2 days or 2 months or 15 years ago.

I keep a lot of small "losable" parts in this tool box on my 8N. This is one of those hard to find original parts. You can tell because it even has the "Ford" script on it.

Funny thing though, my MF202 has the same box on it, but no Ford script.
