Wobble box.

On a Deere head what is the difference in the wobble boxes between the regular and the heavy one? And is there that much difference in them. We are having trouble with keeping the box tight to the plate for the flex head. IT takes those miserable Metric bolts to hold it on and they will not stay tight. IT nhas a new knife in the head with new wear plates. The guards look good no rounded off sides where the section slides over and the hold downs are not new but limited clearance through them. I have run worse in other heads with less trouble. We are mudding to cut beans so I'm sure that is not helping any.

Check underneath for cracks on the left side where the supports to the front cutter bar are. We had a deere flex head that started to fall apart on the outside ends. The middle auger also was welded back together so the whole thing had a horrible bounce to it and we used it like that for like 7 years...Auger seems to crack in the middle and trough wears through there. Supports crack on the ends it seems. I didnt know there was a heavy wobble box I know some other brands are shaft drive we had very little trouble with wobble box really but kept pretty new knives on and a lot of new guards it should kind of stay bolted down to that plate.

My concern would be the bolt holes. Are the threads clean, not stretched out, holes not wallowed out from running with loose bolts, holes on the wobble box not all wallowed out? If any of these defects exist those bolts will never stay tight. Mark.

I second what FixingFarmer says about checking the mount and making sure it's rigid/not cracked. Deere headers (and to a lesser extent, Deere MoCo's) are known for that problem - loose/weak mounts crack and/or cause lots of vibration, the wobble box works loose, and eventually something cracks. Usually the wobble casting.

I've also done what's suggested before and weld the bolt heads on other equipment. Actually, what I usually do is weld a piece of bar/keystock against two flats on the bolt head, because grade 5 and grade 8 bolts don't take direct weld very well. Weld in such a way that it can be cut off.

is sickle in time? that will loosen bolts up very quickly .before id weld it id look at timing then cracked mount plate .
the sickle must travel equil distance of points of guards.being off 1/8th of an inch in heavy cutting on any header will trough lots of strain on wobble box
