Exhaust Manifold

I'm buying a new exhaust manifold from this site, will the face of the manifold need machined before install?

I was told they might.

I got one for a Ford 455 backhoe with 3 cylinder diesel. It fit perfect. I did use 2 gaskets between the block and manifold, it is just something I have learned over the years.

Obviously I cant know anything about the manifold you purchased HOWEVER as the cost is so reasonable many times when I purchased a new manifold I dropped it off at a local machine shop and had them machine it as smooth and flat as possible and just used a single quality gasket properly torqued with new or good studs/bolts.

I got one for a TO 30 a few years ago. It worked fine out of the box although I did grind China off of it. I hoped that wasn't structural.

its your decision... run a straightedge over the surface and check to see,.. which should be done anyhow before installation. cant see a new manifild needing to be resurfaced .

Every time my dad and I have swapped a manifold we just put high temp silicone on both sides of the gasket and tighten to spec. Never had an issue.

I learned a long time ago, always retorque the manifold bolts three times as it warms up. New or old they like to warp, and they will straighten when hot.(Use new bolts and studs and brass nuts if you can find them)
