Extra to the knotter post yesterday, Dr. August Claas patented a knotter bill hook design in 1921 and again in 1923 here in Europe. The knotter was used in Claas low density balers, bunchers fitted to the back of combines, which were popular over here in the late 1940's to 1960's, and also on the Claas high density balers of the 1960's and later.

The billhook was part of the Claas logo on all Claas machines up to the 1980's but seems to have been discontinued after the death of August and Helmut Claas.

Patented in 1978 by John Appleby in Walworth Co. Wisconsin in the US. Sold to McCormick for $35k
