yes, if your talking about the nut adjustment. you will not have enough heat to hurt the spring. dont need it red hot.

(quoted from post at 11:46:36 10/29/23) Can I heat tis up without ruining temper of spring?

Do you know how to grab the end of the spring with a pipe wrench and twist it so the spring coils open up and the cast or malleable part can be easily screwed out?

Then you can heat away on it t you heart's content without heating the spring at all.

Thats easy, put another pipe wrench end of spring , turn one thats already on there. This opens spring and lets the nut part unscrew.

Well it appears youre removing the bolt so why not turn your pipe wrench around and get a socket on that bolt and unscrew it ??? Plus helps with a description of what are doing and what it is.

es. As long as the spring is not heated over 650F (340C) it should be OK. If you polish a spot on the spring with a file the color change will tell you how hot it is. Don't go past blue. Cooler is better.

According to the 1948 ed. of the Metals Handbook, carbon steel coil springs are tempered between 680F (360C) and 800F (425C). Alloy steels are tempered about 100F higher.
