Winters Here

Way too early for me but woke up to several inches of new snow today and temp hanging around 20 degrees. The older I get the less I like winter. Had to go out and check fences before turning the cattle into a stubble field so I took the old 2wd GMC which got around just fine with some half worn out winter tires and a bit of weight in the back. Shot some video along the way. Hoping this snow goes away and we get a little more nice weather before real winter sets in.

Winter Oct 24

(quoted from post at 22:28:46 10/24/23) And the news said here in Ohio high today was 81
It can change pretty fast. When I finished up combining on the 20th I still needed the AC on in the Magnum for a while in the afternoon. Now I sit shivering with the furnace running.

we were forecasted lots of rain. they back up an inch a day but did say we will go from 80 degrees average this week to a quick drop to 20 degrees. global warming = removal of our $$$ to go in rich peoples hands

Here in East central Wi., it started raining Monday evening and has been raining since. Temp in the low 70s. They say starting in the next few days, the temp will drop into the 40s and it's supposed to be crappy weather through the weekend.

I agree, it's too early for white stuff.. I am hoping it stays away... til Christmas. LOL

I think we might get a few flakes in tropical MN, over the weekend.

I just ordered my snow tires, so I hope we don't get any here for awhile. It's unseasonably warm this week here in central NY (high sixty's today and low seventies by Friday), but next week it cools off. I actually mowed the last of the hay yesterday

Just North west of Richmond, ran around Monday afternoon picking everything I had in my garden because of a frost warning, then it didn't happen. But next week they are calling for a freeze, with '80s in between.

(quoted from post at 06:11:45 10/25/23) I used to get along just fine with a 2-wd pickup, but I always had about 1000 pounds of firewood in the back!
Definitely makes a difference. Having learned to drive on vehicles that actually required us to use our brain rather than relying on traction control, 4wd, abs, etc., I think is a definite advantage. Also always carry a shovel once the snow is here so that if I do get stuck I have a chance of digging myself out.

These days, tire shops would probably report a guy to the authorities (I'm exagerating) if they saw you with winter grips only on the back .... pickup truck or sedan. Part of their sales pitch probably, not sure if they would do that for a guy or not. That used to be the norm back in the day.

I guess I'm stuck in the 80s :) Back in the bias plies days of the 1960s my dad ran "ground grip" tires on the back of the car all year round. If it wasn't snow there was always mud to deal with.

Here on the 120 th meridian of longitude Alberta /British Columbia border a real bloody heat wave..

0 Deg F... ...
