IH 560 that locks in gear when front end loader full

I bought my 560 a little over a year ago...seller did not have alot to say about it...bought it for a good price and have been using it around the farm mainly for moving hay and brush hogging. The most recent issue that I have, is when I am pulling up with the front fork loader and sticking the bale....once the fork is in, and i try to take the 560 out of gear, the shifter is stuck in gear...

This past weekend i was moving hay to a new holding area and when i would try to push the bales together..once I had the bale down and up against the bale on the ground..same thing...could not get the tractor out of gear.....sometimes I could raise the bale up high and the tractor would move a little and could shift it out.

But when I go back to get the next bale out of field...if I did not pull the shifter out of gear before the loader was all the way in the bale same thing...could not pull shifter....I could shut the tractor off and get it out of gear...but sometimes it was a hard pull to get shifter to move out of gear, which didnt seem good either.
Thanks for any help.

Pull the TA back when that happens. The TA sprags are hanging up. A new TA is in your future. However, try to readjust. It might buy you some time.

Hello Wayne welcome to YT! Apparently your tractor
has a TA. The TA direct clutch release is out of
adjustment, the short rod on the side where the clutch
and TA linkage are. If the link to this video from an
..enemy camp.. will go through without being blocked
it shows you what to do. It will make the clutch push
harder at the bottom of the stroke, but it will release
the fight between the one way sprague and the direct
clutch in the reverse direction (opposite way the
engine turns) It shows a 300 but your tractor has the
same mechanical TA.
Clutch and TA adjustment video

Video came thru just fine.....The TA shifter does not work at all. When I got the tractor..the TA did not work and the PTO would not shut off...I worked on the PTO...read on here and made adjustments to the linkage...and now PTO shuts off and on like it should with the lever.

I went to the TA side to try and do the same thing...but was unable to get one of the pins out of the rods and held off until I could get more knowledge before adjusting anything.

So when I pull the TA lever back now...the rods move nothing as there is so much play...seems I have some threads left to adjust down to try and get the TA to engage....but unsure why previous owner did not do the same thing.

It may be worth your time to take off cover 8 shown in the link, it the diesel parts book but the TAs, trans and rear end are the same. I am not real sure how the access is for that on a 560, more familiar with the 300 and 350. The 7 inch direct dry clutch is in there. If you know what clutch release fingers are the outer pivots for them break also there is a throw out bearing in there try to see what kind of condition it is in. The view is limited. Any of that being bad explains why there is a lot of movement without anything happening. One thing that is good is the fact that you are experiencing that locking. That tells us the one-way sprague has at least some ability to lock up. That action is necessary for the TA reduction or ..low side.. to work.

One more thing!!! The clutch pedal is responsible for releasing the TA direct clutch by pulling on the linkage. that is what releases the pressure on the gears. There may be nothing wrong with the Ta if adjusted!! Jim

to prevent the sticking pull the TA lever back it will take the gear tension off. and get your TA adjusted. also when you are creeping
along and step on the clutch the tractor does not have the roll back effect once it stops it just stops, cause its like a brake is on. this
is why u cant get it out of gear. my own findings.

The driveline binding up like that is a sign of a GOOD TA. It means the low side is working. What's happening is the tractor is setting back against the ramp and rollers and in essence the high side and low side of the TA are working against each other.

This driveline binding is normal behavior for a mechanical TA. There is a linkage from the clutch rod to the TA that shifts the TA into "low" every time you push the clutch.

If you don't have a shop manual, they are available online. a quick look {Farmall TA shop service manual} showed them priced from $14.98 to $70+ depending on detail. Check YouTube also. Just a Few Acres Farm has one but it covers 06 through 86 series so it may be different.
