Did anyone see the eclipse today?

It was cloudy here, but there was a couple minute break in the action to get a couple pictures & a quick video. Had to stack 3 ND4 filters & one infrared R72 filter to cut down on the light.

I was standing in the driveway making this & was well within the vicinity of my tractors.

YES! Clear as a bell here in south central Texas, about 30 miles north of San Antonio. I had the special glasses and it was spectacular! Is that almost a pun? kelly

In West Central Tx it started about 10am cst and ended about 2pm cst. Had sliver of sun on left side. Had funny looking sunshine on ground.

Here in central MN, I had rain and was standing out in it, looking south at noon. There was this hole in the clouds moving towards the bright spot in the sky. I got out my phone and waited. The hole actually hit the sun and I was able to take 8 blurry images through the cloud edges before it was over. Not publishable, here or anywhere, but it did show the moon biting a 20 % chunk out of the sun. Jim

What I thought was interesting is the shadows from the trees. Before the eclipse the shadows on the ground where just blobs but during the eclipse you could almost see the image of every leaf.

Rain and clouds couldn't see it if you wanted to . though it might have been the reason it looked darker to the south some what. Sort of like a heavier storm that direction.

Was it total anywhere here in the US? We went to Tennessee back in 17 and watched the total with Lee Little and his wife. It literally changed my life. All I can compare it to is what people say they experience when they have a near death experience with the euphoria and going toward the light. Life's just to special and amazing to be around anybody's drama and BS.

Tom that is neat, I am 100 miles south west of Bowling Green in Dover Tn but I was there at the end of the parkway at Smith Grove and thru Bowling Green at the time. pulled over and too a quick look.

I didn't realize it was coming up that soon. For some reason I thought it was 2027. It's not that far away for us and the time of day that it is, we can make it down and back for a day trip. I'll be looking for a small park or something to park. The old Dark County Steam Threshers grounds looks like it'll be near ground zero.

I do, but the cloud cover was so complete that I didn't have time to get my lenses out. The actual hole in the clouds was only open for 20 seconds as it passed the sun. All good.
My sister (about 20 years ago) was watching a partial eclipse and noticed her sidewalk covered with images of the event all about the size of a dime. She looked up and discovered the Hawthorn tree leaves were creating the effect. the leaves had had insect damage leaving millions of tiny holes in each leaf. A pinhole camera was created that made the images on the sidewalk. She did photo the event. Jim

It will be interesting to see what you find for space.

Around the time of the eclipse in 2017, I ran across a couple articles discussing the fact that the out-of-town viewers of the eclipse transiting S Ill. were reserving the same spot for the eclipse in 2024. Some were going so far as to buy up houses & property in the area to ensure that they had the best seats in the house for one or both events. Some locals & out-of-towners complained & said something should be done about it, it's not fair to the newcomers, etc, etc.

Not sure what became of things. I was out in Washington at the time & didn't much keep up with the local news from around here.

You may have to get creative with your parking.

The line of closest totality ran from S Oregon down through W Texas. The point of greatest eclipse occurred near the coast of Nicaragua.

It was a very interesting feeling during the eclipse in 2017 & the haze from the local wildfires added an eerie effect to things. One item of note, there was a Fossil Tree on the property of the RV park & the leaves cast a really neat shadow on the side of the camper.

Can't seem to find those pics, but will post if I do.
