Setting up mower stabilizer chains

This is what my home made stabilizer chains look like. Been using them for 25 years.

Go to your original post, look at the photo posted by wore out! You should be able to do it.

You can see the kit. You didn't post a picture of what you got so we can't be sure what you are looking at. Best you lay the pieces out and post a picture.

I will guess you have a couple chains with a plate, having a 7/8'' hole, welded to one end of each chain. Those plates go on the same pins of the implement that the draft/lift arms hook to. There should be a couple plates with a 3/4'' hole and a keyhole in them. The 3/4'' hole accepts the top link pin (you may need a longer pin if one didn't come in the kit), one on each side of the ears. The free end of the chains each go through the keyhole of the plate of their respective side. The keyholes are used to adjust the chains to hold at the height you want.

At least one person posted a picture for you in your previous post.

Sorry, I did not see your first post abot this. My chains are for side to side stabilization on 3 point equipment.

On most tractors there are 2 holes you can put the top link in. If you put the link in the top position, you can out your chains in the bottom so you can more easily adjust the height of your mower. If you only have one hole, then you have ot use that one for both.

I think that they are supposed to connect to the pins you have by your rear wheels. You can just see a stub sticking out in that photo, rather than to the top link point.

Depends if you are trying to limit UP-Down or Left-Right movement.

I have a 3 point concrete mixer, I use both on that. One set runs to the top link hole to keep from dropping the full mixer too low. The other set runs to the pins by the wheels to keep the heavy concrete from jerking the mixer side to side when mixing.

Good point. I had figured they were side to side and the position control would use a stop to prevent lowering, but I could see where they get used for either option

You have them on correctly and the chains on the draft pins are on correctly. Now feed the loose end of each chain through the keyhole. Lift your three point to the eight you want, adjust the chains that height, and lock a link of both chains in the keyhole slot of their plate. The chains will stop your implement from lowering below the point you adjusted them to,even if you lower the control completely down.
