99 problems and my tractor is every one of them

In need of some warranty and mechanical insight and advice.

I should preface this first with an apology for the long winded and colossal amount of particulars. Also some base knowledge; the tractor in mention is a kioti DK4210 with approx 67 hours on the helm and owned for just over one year, has been looked after with meticulous care and attention. This occurred in Canada with all monetary values in Canadian dollars.

One day in July, upon completing my pre use inspection as indicated in the manual, which includes but is not limited to a coolant check on the reservoir, I was rough cutting the pasture field and the aforementioned tractor signalled for a re gen on the indicator cluster. I Initiated re gen cycle which lasted for about 40 minutes, during this time I was monitoring the temperature and rpm, both of which never deviated over normal peramiters.

Once re gen was complete, I continued rough cutting and after about 10 minutes the tractor called for another re gen , which I found suspicious thus prompting me to call kioti authorized service center (the dealership purchased from). Communicated my concerns to the service manager, who advised it was most likely sensor and to proceed driving as normal . As instructed I begin rough cutting once again, and the re gen light turned off. After 10 minutes in the field the re gen lights up once more and the tractor goes into limp mode and powers down with an F20 code. Called dealership and arranged inspection and pickup of tractor.

After several weeks, received phone call from service manager, he deemed the problem to be melted injector harness to which he failed to order the proper replacement but claiming correct component was on the way. After replacing they proceeded to force a re gen without acknowledging me or yet informing me what the F20 code signifies. They ran the tractor for an undetermined about of time. After they determined cylinder 2 had a knock, which I had never heard when tractor was in my possession. Dealership then called manufacturer as per standard operating procedures.

After 6 weeks of the original issue, I was informed that kioti would not honor the warranty due to radiator leak attributable to suspected damage to radiator from object.

Indications of these suspicions;
-Small crack in cowling
-dent on exhaust guard
-broken connection on plastic radiator mount

When tractor was in my hands the temperature never deviated from normal, never coolant on ground, reservoir was always full. Dealership claimed thermostat sensor would not operate effectively with zero coolant near temp sensor. As far as I know, if there was steam or lack of coolant then the gauge would act erratically . They gave me an estimated cost of repair to be just over $20,000. Simply the labour cost on the diagnosis of the issue is $5,700, due to their lack of knowledge or understanding. Called another kioti authorized service centre to which their estimate of repairs was$ 11,343 and change. Breakdown of cost as follows; diesel engine $7,610, 16 hours of labor(supposed standard of time according to their service book for this repair) at a rate of $119/hour. Remaining costs are associated parts. Not including transportation costs to new service centre.

Also worthy of note is within the last week the service manager whom I dealt with from the initial issue has since been relocated to field duties and new manager has been appointed. It's been just over two months since problem began.

I suppose I'm looking for insight on;
- how to properly gauge coolant level, as even the shop failed to notice coolant leak until after they forced the re gen. Neither the dealership nor the kioti manufacturer have provided any advice on this.
- why is there no guard to protect this area
- why did safety features fail to shut down before damage
- if anyone knows what the F20 code signifies, after extensive searches I've turned up with no answers due proprietary rights of kioti.
- new manager requested meeting on Tuesday, any advice for my meeting and how to proceed going forward

wish I could help, That tractor is new to me. The dealer is saying because of a possible radiator leak, is the cause of the engine knock. I kind of
doubt that. Some motors have a sensor somewhere that will indicate a overheated condition. You need someone from the dealer to be on our side, which I
doubt will be anyone, for fear of being fired. stan

Where in Canada is this ? I am not understanding how we
are to help when the dealer cant even tell u what the
code means. Something not right by the seams of things
with them service managers. Phone their head office.
Plus that tractor is from overseas , I just forget now.

If you go down 6 posts or so someone
posted about an engine knock on a Kubota.
With a melted injection harness I would
think that was from constant regen
getting extremely hot from the extra
fuel. Possibly damaged an injector. I
would get it from the dealer and find a
different shop. They are finding any
reason to not warranty work. My question
would be what was the diagnosis and regen
issue? I would try an injector first
before an engine. If it does need an
engine is it worth it? Or can you sell it
to someone else they can fix it you move
on to another tractor? I would find an
independent shop that can work on it and
get another opinion.

I think they are trying to get out of
warranty repair and you are not at fault.
Perhaps their is a consumer advocate
agency that. Can help you fight the
dealership. I know someone in a similar
situation with a Kubota and he is getting
a new engine under warranty.

I'm not here to bash kioti in any way.i am
a member of kioti tractor group its a site
like any other where people share
information about there tractors anyone
can join it through Facebook groups.it
comes up automatically on my news feed.i
read it everyday I noticed they have alot
of hydraulic issues with there tractors I
have read they use cheaper valves and
other hydraulic parts.the base price for
these tractors and alot cheaper than the
other well known brands that is what
attracts alot of people to them.i think
you have to take into consideration why
they are cheaper than others.some people
have good luck with there tractors while
for some it's a nightmare.i believe the
dealer has alot to do with this again I'm
not here to bash them its just what I read
on a daily basis I wish you luck with your
tractor.

Why is there no guard there? Because they never intended the tractor to be crashing through brush. Farm tractors are designed to operate in open fields. If you're going to be rough cutting where sticks and branches are involved you want to add some "armor" to the tractor in the form of a brush guard and possibly side panels.

Wondering, if you were giving the tractor "meticulous care and attention" how you didn't notice this damage? I'd wonder if maybe the damage happened at the dealer?

Thanks for the reply is there any other information you supply in regards to the Kubota situation. Any and all would help!

If all is as you say, I believe the dealership messed something up and now are trying to avoid a warranty claim. I have no idea how you prove that they broke
the front of your tractor and the radiator, but it appears there are indicators that someone ran into something. Letting them go so long with out you bugging
the s crap out of them is on you. better find an advocate for consumer affairs. I think your being hosed. jmo gobble

If everything your saying is true and the new manager
sings the same oh its your fault so your on your own
song than Id politely let them know you will be seeking
legal advice. If you do end up getting warranty I would
seriously consider trading it for a Kubota or John Deere
and get away from Kioti , you dont need these issues
again. Best of luck to you sir , a good lawyer would
hopefully happily take them on I expect to be part of a
David vs Goliath exposed case.

Low hour tractor. How new any insurance involved you could call on. Is it financed by Kioti if so check and see insurance may be included. If so file on the insurance.

As the saying has it

It is more effective to deal with the block than the chips

In your case I'd suggest going direct to Kioti in South Korea

Hey Barnyard, read the OP!! he told us that he was mowing a "pasture/field". Why do you want to accuse him of mowing brush?

Hey Barnyard, most of us cut small brush with our "brush hogs"

Been one of the chips for years.....the block will not help you and may hardly speak your language. I always loved it when somebody said I want your supervisor or.....I am gonna call the factory. That takes the workload away from the local rep who calls on the dealership and he or she just had their workload lightened up ! Learn how to communicate and state your case face to face without threats or profanity.....works almost every time.

If the cooling system isn't holding pressure due to a small leak, the temperature gauge is going to be a bit misleading. 'Normal' temperature on the gauge is probably around 210°F, and water boils at 212°F at atmospheric pressure. So you can have a situation where the coolant is actually boiling but the gauge says everything is OK.

If it was me, I'd pay the second service center for the repairs and try to stiff the first guy. Of course, if the original dealer is smart, he'll never let your tractor out of his shop until you've paid the bill. In which case I'd talk to a lawyer.

Another thing that can happen with a small coolant leak is the cooling system will stop pulling coolant from the recovery tank because it isn't pulling a vacuum when it cools. It's never safe to assume the RADIATOR is full just because the recovery tank is full. When in doubt check the radiator (if that's even possible on your tractor).

Sorry just read your reply. It's not really possible to take a accurate reading of the radiator coolant level. I'm kind of at a loss as to how to fix this issue going forward. I think kioti and the dealership is too. Regardless of make of tractor how can i guarantee I don't have this situation to leading to catastrophic failure again?
