Some iron in the scrapyard

A friend with a salvage yard called me to look at some junk they hauled in from an estate cleanup.I guess my job is going to be to figure out some prices on it all to peddle it off. Some interesting stuff, the Fordson on tracks was inside, with the radiator taken off.We figure on selling the junk Fordson along with it as it has what is missing. Not sure what brand track attachment it has on it.The Silver King is nice, the owner paid a lot of money for that tractor many years ago.I don't know what brand the little articulated tractor is,but it is nice. The little Cleveland crawler was being restored, and was inside, but any unrestored parts were outside and disappeared a year or two ago.

The Fordson Major with the engine off it will most likely just go into a load of frag. The little 2 cylinder diesel will probably follow one of the guys around there home. The Wheelhorse is coming home with me.Somebody is already looking at the piece of the mower attachment still on the junk Fordson.I have to start scouting around to see what to price everything at.I realize prices in other parts of the country don't have much to do with prices around here.

A local salvage yard charges so much a pound for out going. Useally it's double of what they pay for incomeing(scrap).

First tractor I ever sat on was a Silver King. I dont remember it, but saw I photo of it.

That is a fascinating pile of junk. Love the crawler tracks.

The tracks on the Fordson look like the Rigid Rail tracks which were fitted to some Fordson tractors. The pivot steer tractor is a Centaur, probably with a Le-Roi engine.

Thanks. An older fellow that was looking at the Fordson said Rigid came to mind for him,but he couldn't quite remember. The swivel hip tractor does have a Leroi engine on it,I haven't seen a tag on the tractor itself yet.I went there today to take pictures and look for tags, but while I was there a couple of pieces of metal roofing sailed over my head.We have high winds from the tail of a hurricane passing by so I didn't stick around to look for tags.Once I have ID's on everything I'll starting scouting around for prices in the northeast. The owners are my friends and I'm going to get the most I can for them. There is a County tractor too,but that one might be already sold.

(quoted from post at 14:32:03 09/16/23) Whoever sent that stuff to the scrapyard deserves to get what they pay. What a shame.

Obviously most of it is not getting scrapped. This scrap dealer realizes that they have more than scrap here and it has value beyond scrap. So where is the shame?

None of that stuff is really high dollar equipment. You could be months or years trying to sell it off piecemeal, and there isn't enough there for it to be worth the auctioneer's time UNLESS he takes most of what things sell for as commission.

Sometimes you're money, time, and frustration ahead telling the scrap man to come in, take everything, and pay you by the pound.

In this case the scrap man is a good egg and isn't just cutting everything up. Folks are getting good deals on some rare and weird equipment.

A tree came down on the wires right across from my house this afternoon. It took down a pole and cracked three more. There have been four bucket trucks plus a tree service truck and around ten guys here since around 3:30. It is looking like they will have power back on around 9:00.

I'm sorry, this is in the seacoast area of N.H.I have to get together with them about actually advertising, but that red Centaur has generated a huge amount of interest. They know there's no big ticket items there, but it's no skin off them to scout around for a few months to find the right people to put things with.I remember the deceased previuos owner having a set of pistons made by Egge for that Cleveland.

I don't blame the scrapyard one bit. The shame is the guy's collection ending up there in the first place.
I'm glad they are going to sell most of it back out rather than busting it all up.

What if the owner was the type that thought he was gonna live forever.
And maybe had heirs that he knew had no interest in keeping the stuff.
But made no plan for the inevitable.

That is the most likely scenario and it happens all the time. I have been selling a lot of stuff off so that I am not a burden on my son and daughter later on.
