What is this part called? ALLIS CHALMERS AC5050

What is this thing called that I am pointing at- so I can try to locate another one. I just don't know what its called, its part of the power steering and its on one end of the hydraulic piston, the steering arm coming from the Pittman arm connects to the ball joint in this part. There's a some play in the ball joint that is inside of this part and want to replace it in the off-season, also the boot leaks a little fluid. I'm not even sure this part comes off separately from the hydraulic piston.

(quoted from post at 05:47:55 09/12/23)
That would be the power steering control valve.

I don't know how much ''play'' you are seeing there, but a small amount is necessary for the valve to function.

The play I'm referring to is gauged by the steering wheel. Its a little less than a quarter turn of play... the boot does leak a little, not a lot (yet), and it makes a squishy sound when you move it back and forth with the steering wheel, it sounds like there's mayonnaise inside. Its not REALLY sloppy & loose, its just not tight/firm like I would expect it should be. There's definitely a little extra play in it, but not a major amount (yet)

Here's a parts breakdown from the AGCO parts site, and a link to get there.

If the direct link won't work you'll have to enter your model number and drill down through the menu to Section 114.

I have no experience with this particular model, but typically adjustments and/or or shimming are needed after repairs to units like this to center the steering valve, I would want to have a factory service manual at hand if repairing it.

Those hydraulic cylinders are also used on both Long tractors that I have. I have one at a
hydraulic shop right now. It should be fixed most any day now.

You gave me a real chuckle when you said ..it sounds
like mayonnaise in there.. I guess I do not listen to my
sandwich spreads before I apply them! ; > ) YT
appears to carry a seal kit for that, see link. I would
guess if you found a complete cylinder new or rebuilt,
you will be looking at some serious dollars.

Linkage type Power steering has travel in that ball/socket. the travel is what causes internal valving to move directing pressure to the cylinder to assist moving. If you test the play with it shut off, the play will be exaggerated such that you will consider it a fault. it may not be!!. the leak is a fault to fix. Jim

I don't know if there is any adjustment to the steering gear under the fuel tank there but I think you will find most of your wheel play is there and not in that valve. The steering actuator valve has to have some play to work properly though not to much or it will give a sloppy feel to the steering wheel also.
