I have been cleaning an old barn on my
dads property and found this laying
agianst a wall and wasn't sure what it is.

Im sure if you loo close you will find some cast or stamped part number on it which will help identify better.
 
Is the domed cap on the end removable it looks like it has a square on the end maybe a threaded hub cap if so open it up and see if theres a castle nut and bearing in there?
Just spit balling!
 
Further messing with it. No numbers but that was a cap and it had more splines under it. Can't tell if there is a brg or not but nothing spins, not saying much it is pretty well rusted

It's the original style PTO from an N series Ford tractor. Your dad must have changed the pto to the new updated modern shaft on his 9/8N.
