USPS Rant Update

The part that I ordered from Taylor Texas on August 21
that finally made it to Illinois City on September 5 but was
returned to Texas instead of being delivered to me went
to Austin Texas and is now lounging in Des Moines Iowa.
Place your bets as to whether I get it by Christmas or if it
is lost forever in transit. Government efficiency at its
finest!! Chris

The little town I used to live in if you mailed a letter to someone across the street it would be shipped hundreds of miles to St. Louis to be sorted and then back to town to be delivered. Looks like even a small staff could separate the local mail.

There might be something on the mailing label that's causing their scanners to misdirect it. Something as simple as damage like a scratch or a stain. Not much human involvement any more.

Double check the delivery address on the mailing label, bad or missing information will cause a package to be returned to sender. The fact that the package was returned to the sender means the system is working. The few times I have had problems like that either the label was wrong or damaged. Either way the sender is responsible, you should be able to get your payment refunded.

Covering a printed label with clear packing tape has worked well for me.

A Google search tells me that the USPS handles about 420 million pieces of new mail every day. So more than one for every person in your country. Busy country, busy postal service. I'll place a bet and say that you get it before Christmas .... that's another 3 months. They should find it by then hopefully. Meanwhile, the article in the link below is good reading .... but means nothing for a guy waiting for a parcel of course.

The PO "here" had 2 slots for outgoing mail many years ago. Local mail was sorted and postmarked on site. Everything else went in another slot to be sent away.

The original package that I've never seen, it made it to Texas and instead of going back to the sender, it went to Iowa. The guy that sent it is a parts dealer that mails stuff all of the time, he should know how to package and address correctly.

It isn't just USPS. I just finished reading a similar horror story on another forum regarding FedEx.

Truthfully, I've had better luck with USPS than FedEx.

I had a credit card scammed from a company here in the states that I had never heard of saying that I had purchased two different items on such a certain date and that they were sent to my post office box with a tracking number (I have rural box). Tracking number plus the merchandise that I did not order was not there as the company claimed it was. I have contested this for over six months w/ my card carrier and to no real help to speak of yet.

2 years ago I pulled the wiper arms off both my balers and mailed them to a shop to be reconditioned. I had no problems but your nightmare was running through my mind.

So I am waiting on a part. It left Louisville KY. Went to Florida, spent 3 days in the sun and now sets in Cincinnati, OH, hopefully on its way to Dayton.

Any new tricks lately in the 'Stirring the Pot Cookbook' Russ? It's getting more difficult to get anyone to bother replying these days .... LOL! Not to worry, the Vikings will survive despite the weekend result.

Agreed. Yes, it is frustrating when it happens and it seems like it "always" happens to you. The odds of it NOT happening, though, are staggering. With hundreds of millions of packages and letters in the system at any given time, how can there NOT be mistakes? Someone has to make them, and someone has to be affected by them.

did you ever get your well traveled part?

Des Moines is a notorious black hole for mail & it is by far not a new thing. It either hangs up there or gets misdirected or both. Also seen packages get misdirected from Chicago or Oak Creek & end up there only to be seen a month or so later. Now, tracking does not tell you anymore, where they have screwed up. Recently waited over three weeks for a motor for the vacuum & have no idea where it stalled out. However, that's the only piece that has been held up in a while for me.
