Farmall H two leaks

My son inherited an H and he said both the rear end gear lube and the belly pump oil leak out badly when he put oil in. Apparently, both were empty or near empty when he got it. So what do we start
looking for and where to fix the leaks. Thank You !

dont know if your talking about two separate oil leaks meaning hyd. and diff oil. but any how it will involve changing the leaking seals. so better give it a close inspection and or a good washing and go to it. i have no idea as to what seals are leaking as you did not say. wheel axle seals, brake seals, or front trans seals??? if you dont know post a picture of them leaks then its very easy to diagnose the leaks.

There is a Liftall drive shaft between the transmission lower (counter) shaft, and the hydraulic pump. this short shaft has seals on both drive, and driven hubs (called nuts by IH) they are pretty easy to repair by removing the bolted on retainer, on the trans end, and similar task on the pump. Both drive hubs remove Lefty loosy. The rear one needs the tractor in high gear and blocked not to move. There is a 1/2 inch slot in the nut that takes a substantial piece of 1/2 inch steel strap about 2 ft long By 2 inches wide to fit the slot. (much force and impact are normal). The pump nut needs to have the pump out (heavy and awkward, help is good on a floor jack, with fittings/lever removed.)
Using a piece of brass or aluminum stock in the intake hole to lock the gears of the pump, use the same bar to remove the drive flange. Replacement seals can be had from the numbers, Speedy sleeves may be needed if the nuts are grooved. Jim

Several possible places to leak on the transmission/rear end. I'd be really suprized if it's just leaking in one place and out one seal or gasket. Could be, but I'd bet otherwise. It'll take some cleaning, watching, and investigating to figure out/see where all its leaking.

Not so many possible places on the belly pump. And it being low might be from loss of fluid to a cylinder rather than leaking. But if it's ending up on the floor, it's obviously leaking too.

One things for sure, you want to pin point all the leaks you'll be fixing before tearing down. Otherwise you'll just be repeating some of your tear down/re-assemble.

Lower front transmission shaft to lift all pump (seals on both), and gaskets between axle housings & rear end are common to develope leaks. Wouldn't have to be, and might also leak elsewhere.

Whether or not anything leaks bad enough to warrant fixing (in your opinion) will have to be decided by you/your son. Personally, I don't fix miner seeps. The kind that just developes some gunk on exterior of housing. Dripping out after filled, different story. Fluids are getting high priced to just let run out like that.
