About 5:30 they set up this balloon. Just what we needed......more HOT air. Lol

They had it tethered and were taking riders up about 100 feet. They had it set up in about 40 minutes.

A friend of mine has a balloon, and wants me to go up sometime. No thanks, to ride in something that the only control is up and down. When my brother was raising cattle, His pasture was a good landing place for balloons. Then the chase truck would cut the fence to get in, and get the balloon. Then he would get a call from the police about cattle out. Same problem with people riding horses. Stan

It was fun meeting you at HC I saw that balloon but Im afraid of heights above the 3rd leg on a step ladder

The fellow on the left was really friendly. He asked us if we wanted to peek inside it from the exhaust valve at the top as it was being inflated.

I am about like you, 6 foot ladder plenty high for me, also a lot of bridges. Could not get up to top of my camper. Also hard working close to side of mow to stack bales.

One evening many years ago I went out the milkhouse, looked up, and saw a hot air balloon heading West. They yelled and waved. I would guess they were 200 feet high. About double my 90 feet Harvestore.

Stan - I am a balloon pilot and a farmer both. 99%+ pilots do not cut fences. Anyone pilot or their crew that does is an EXTREME criminal @hole and should be prosecuted for that crap. It gives us a very bad name and we absolutely don't want that. I have crew ask permission first from the landowners everywhere I can when I land even if it's open and easily accessible unless I already know them and have blanket permission. As a farmer with cattle on my farm I also fly higher over them or other livestock (i.e. horses). I go out of my way to have good relations with my neighbors and the local community in general. I give away most of my rides and don't sell any as I'm a private pilot and can't without a commercial license and a Class 2 medical.

Eric - the pilot there of the Touchstone balloon is a close ballooning friend of mine. He's originally from Iowa (still has farm land up there) but is based in St. Louis. He's also one of the local aircraft (balloon) mechanic/repair station plus an FAA designated examiner.
