Rubber torsion springs for Rest-O-Ride seat

Where do you get good ones? I got the seat together and within ten minutes on it the seat dropped because the rubber spring came apart.

It's been a long time, they may have moved or dissolved, but I used to go to Metro Moulded rubber
in Mpls. Or Minnesota Rubber.

They might have something that can be used.

It's my understanding that Steiner imports
them from the land or almost right and
resells to other vendors. I bought mine
from Steiner and used their one year
warranty to the max. Putting a piece of
foam under the seat takes the big twist out
of a hard bump and keeps the spring from
giving way.

Pretty sure they're a Bostrom seat aren't they? I don't know if they use the same torsion springs as the ones on
the Olivers or not. Korves Oliver has good American made that hold up.

Steiner imports
them from China and refuses to pay what it takes to get good quality parts and resells to other vendors. I

There, fixed it for you.

If you want to keep it original I can't help you but if you want it functional what I did on my neighbors Oliver is use a torsion spring from a trailer ramp. Make the necessary brackets
and mount the spring out behind the seat. Just now I'm thinking, didn't AC field cult. use a rubber spring on the shanks? They must be pretty tough. Maybe you could make them work.

If they were American made they'd cost 3 times as much and be just as poor quality as the China-made ones because the company has to cut corners so they can afford to pay their workers, taxes, and be compliant with safety and environmental regulations.

So I was at an army surpluss store and the had some machine gunner seats. Maybe for a jeep. Had to modify just a little, but work good on the 88 and 77. The rubber spring must have been made by the same
company. The whole thing looked just like an Oliver just a little different setup. But that was 15 years ago. Just worked good a few minutes ago as I mowed the hay.

Used to be a manufacturer in Ortonville MN, it that ended a couple decades ago I think. The imports were so cheap
no one bought the good stuff.

I purchased from them. They retired.

The plate on the inner end just came unbonded from the rubber. I am thinking of drilling through the plate on the new one and putting some screws in to give it extra holding ability and take some of the load off the bond.
