OT- -Esophogeal cancer update

Hello everyone,
I know this topic isn't tractor related. Please forgive me. I just wanted to give everyone an update on my esophogeal cancer journey. I am currently undergoing radiation and chemo treatments at Mayo in Rochester Minnesota. I just started the first of 25 radiation treatments on Monday this week and my first of 5 chemo treatments was yesterday. I am severely struggling swallowing solid food since I was diagnosed on June 7,2023. After I complete these treatments, and if all goes well, I will have about a 4 week recovery, and then hopefully I will have the esophojectomy surgery in mid October. The esophojectomy is a very intense 6-8 hour surgery where 3 doctors remove my cancerous esophagus and the top of my stomach, and then reform the rest of my stomach into a tube and reconnect it to the back of my throat. I will have a feeding tube in my belly until I can learn to eat again on my own. This could be a 6 month or longer recovery, depending on how my body is handling all these changes. So my life will be forever changed from here on. I am leaving this all in our good Lord's hands to guide me through this journey succesfully. Thank you all for listening. Wishing you all the good Lord's blessings on your day. Attached is a picture of me in a t shirt my wonderful wife designed for my cancer journey. We are also selling these t shirts as a private fund raiser for me. Kow Farmer Kurt

Prayers for you KF. How do we get the shirt? I would order one. I am sure others would as well. Bill

Best wishes for a positive outcome.

My father went through the same thing at age 72. I don't recall that his surgery was as radical as it sounds like yours will be, but they did remove his voice box and the cancerous tissue after radiation treatments. For the rest of his life he spoke by holding an electronic gadget next to this throat. It was a mechanical sound, but at least he was communicating.

14 years later, he died of a stroke with no sign of cancer in his body.

Good luck!

Hi Jim,
I am not a smoker, never was and never will be. This all stemmed from my neglect of seriously bad heartburn for many years.

Prayers for you added to my prayer list. Your young age is a big plus in this fight. I know you post about Case stuff so are you a member of the Case collector organizations. Maybe you already posted this on The Case forum too. The Case crew would be a large prayer-warrior group for you.

May our Lord bless you.
