What is a power block in jd two cylinder tractors ?

Power Blocks, along with pistons, rings and wrist pins, were sold by Tractor Supply Co. in the 50's and 60's. They were a bolt-in-place block with much larger displacement, larger pistons and higher compression for increased horsepower.
They were available for some A, B, G, and early 50, 60 and 70 tractors,

JD 2 cylinders were designed to be rebuilt by changing out the block and pistons. I put a power block in a 46 JD A, it cost $209.00 at TSC. It took the stock bore from 5 1/2 inches to 6 inches increasing the cubic inches from 321 to 380. It also increased the compression from 5.5 to around 6.5 or 7. The power block had no compression relief so the six-volt starting system had to be graded to 12 volts. I just took the block assembly out of the box pulled the pistons out of the block just far enough to install the rods and then set the block in the frame and bolted it up. That A would out pull most JD 60s, although the Thermo-Siphon cooling system struggled in a steady pull. The tractor also had the add on hydraulic valve that was sandwiched between the Power-Lift and the tractor to give it remote hydraulics. Earlier Dad and Grandpa had a Power Blocked G that they traded in on a JD 3020 diesel in 1964. I still have the 3020.
