My saw had no spark. About the only thing that could cause this is the coil. I replaced the coil, still no spark. What am I missing? I use my chain saws in my mowing business, to remove branches, so it is kind of tractor related. Stan

Yep, probably the kill switch. Disconnect it. See if you get spark, but DON'T run it with no kill switch.

is the magnet still on the flywheel? test it with a piece of iron. clean the magnet with some sandpaper.
does the coil wire feel broken?

On mine the clasp in the sparkplug boot came loose.

37 chief,

Are you using the original plug, or A spark tester? MAKE SURE you have a good ground if you are grounding the plug. Use a spark plug YOU know is good. Is it possible to install the coil upside down?

Both sides of the coil are used to set the proper gap. The coil-ignition module, needs to a good ground too.

Guido.

37 chief,

did you try putting a bit of gas in the carb. if no life then you have no spark,

Guido.

How old is the saw? I had a couple heavy duty Huskies 30 years ago and they were king of the road. Now they're DOA, hard to get parts for and dealers have abandoned them because the manufacturuer support is non-existent.

Stan, which model are we talking about? Are the coil and the trigger one component or is there a separate trigger next to the flywheel. My old 61 rancher has 2 components, and the trigger is hard to find. Also, check the ground connections on the coil. steve

I have and early 80's vintage Husqvarna 65, that is still running strong. Makes me tired to think of how much wood it has cut since I have had it.

I recently got parts for it at "eReplacementParts.com". Just this spring I had to replace the fuel line and filter from the tank to the carburetor Also, got parts to rebuild the carb. I figured since it was nearing 43 years old, it was due. It is old enough to have points but I have never had any trouble with spark.

Hope im not insulting your intelligence Chief but did you stick a business card between the new coil and the flywheel to properly gap it? I did this recently and did NOT gap it and the coil was too close to the magnet on the flywheel and no spark.

Where did you get the coil from?
I just had coil problems with my 445
I went with a cheap coil 1st time. Hard start Miss/Rough at Idle. Missfire at High RPM
Bought a higher priced coil. 1/2 the time the Saw would run counter clock wise. I did not know that the could run that way
Ended up Paying up and getting one right from the Dealer

The saw is a Husqvarna 36, that was given to me, because it didn't run. I have two rancher 55 saws I have had for years. Just replaced the piston, and cylinder on them in the past. They have cut a lot of wood, and are ready for more. Stan

Is the key that holds the flywheel partially sheared.
