Fordson Major E27N with Roadless DG Halftracks. All of 27 hp, in later versions Ford fitted a Perkins P6 which gave 40 hp and later still a Perkins L4 which took it up to around 50 hp.

How hard is it to find the pieces to install an L4 into an E27N?
Or an engine from a new major?? Is freight the main problem?

If you find bits for an E27N to L4 conversion you have to be careful not to tread in rocking horse poo in the same shed, there may also be some hens teeth laying around. :0)

I bought a complete tractor for a friend, a few years ago, It was in bits and when we stripped the engine, the block was cracked from top to bottom, went back to the seller, another friend, and he pulled a brand new block off the shelf, still in Perkins grease and wrapped in paper.

One piston was broken too so I brought a new piston back from Australia in my baggage. That tractor went to Holland on the back of my Land Rover Discovery and trailer.

This was in 2011 and the total cost was around 3000.00 pounds sterling.
