Majorman: Is there a reason for all the lights to be mounted on the front of the grill down just above the frame on tractors in Europe? IT just seems strange to have them down there like that on the front. I mounted a pair of lights like that sort of at frame height on an 806 and they seem to work ok just not a great place for them to me. I already have the lights in the front of the fenders.Wanted more brighter light and that is what I got I need to adjust them some in the dark one night.

Do not really know the thinking behind the light position other than that they are out of the way. European laws do not allow them to be mounted up on the rear wings as they are on some tractors over there but, where they are, means they are not in the way of front mounted loaders and other implements or any belt driven equipment. In the 1960's every manufacturer went to front mounted rather than side mounted, over this side of the pond.

Today, tractors have roof mounted lights as well as the front mounted ones but they are not allowed to be used on the road and are classed as work only lights.

When I worked in the tractor shop (60s-70s), the 1000 series we imported from GB had the headlights mounted in the grille, the one's manufactured for sale in the states, were on the outsides of the grille shell. The British models also had turn signals, brake lights, and a park brake(besides the steering brakes). I was told that this was because they were used on the roads in Europe far more than in the states.

Makes sense to have them out of the way when using a front end loader. My UB Moline had to have them moved from their original location so the loader would not hit them. I know of other similar cases.
