Update on sticking brakes

I had a problem with the front right side brakes possibly sticking. Ford F250SD 2WD. I replaced the brake hose and recently drove the truck to pick up my new Cub about 50 miles away.

It drove and stopped normally. No smoking brakes, nothing getting too hot. I'd cleaned the wheel bearing grease off the wheel, and there is new grease there now. So the problem is not yet resolved. When I have a few minutes I'll repack the wheel bearings and see if there's anything else that needs attention. I've done wheel bearings, but it's been a few minutes. Fortunately I don't rely on the truck for everyday driving.

Congratulations on your partial success. I'll bet that you will find that what little grease you had left is liquified so that it is migrating to the outside. You may also find that the seal was damaged by the heat. They can withstand high heat but up to a limit of course.

Thanks, I think the seal probably failed. I thought about just replacing all the brake components up front then looked at prices. For this truck it starts to add up to real money and there is so much brake pad remaining both sides and it all looks to be wearing evenly. Couldn't really justify it. I'll monitor the situation and at least look at the wheel bearings and repack with new seal.

you have a brake caliper that sticks at times. i went through that with my truck. just replace the caliper. and it did not always stick only
at times.

While intermittent hanging can happen, the Ford Super Duties are known for the hose problem.

Years ago I had an old E350 Econoline van. On a long trip the left front brakes started smoking. I was able to pull it into a shop and they replaced everything on that side because the heat had done too much damage. I remember they told me it was the brake hose that had failed and that's what caused the brakes to stick.

That's why I went with the hose on my truck. That, and the fact it was only 25 bucks. Fingers crossed.
