Looks like the engine bay in the 68 Charger I had except for the a/c comp. Mine was a York that I added with a under dash mounted a/c from a Ford car.

I always liked those engines. Solid, reliable, excellent torque. Dad had a 67 Newport that would burn the tires off, and still get 17 on a trip.

I was never much of a 383 fan after i learned about the 440's lying around everywhere for a song! instant 40hp and everything bolted up!

I'm not seeing the distributor in the front by the alternator. IF the distributor is in the back it is a small block, and I don't care what is said the big blocks all had the distributor in the front. 383 had more stroke than bore and the 400,440,426wedge all had a larger bore than stroke. The reason the 383 was slower at getting up to speed. 383 was something like 4inch bore with 4.5 stroke and it was a 90 degree V block while the others were a 60 degree V bock with something like a 4.125or 4.250 bore with a 4inch stroke. Been a long time since I looked at those engines specs and could be wrong since I slept a few times since then.

The 383 B is characterized by its large cylinder bore of 4.25 inches with a short stroke of 3.375. (That is in comparison to the 440's 3.75.)

Dist. should be on drivers side up front but from that picture I don't see it or the plug wires so it's a little confusing.

Correct, additionally there is another 383 Mopar, the 383RB. Stands for raised block. Uses the 413/440s 3.75 stroke but smaller bore at 4.031. Only used in Chrysler 59 and 60.

60 degree V8??? The only ones I've ever heard of that were 60 degrees were the Yamaha engines in the Ford SHO Taurus and a Volvo. Then a few oddballs here and there but every common V8 was 90 degrees.

Well if ya look close the dist is there UNDER all the hoses and JUNK , that is a plain old 383 that you would find in the mid to late 60's that is a 325 Hp one . worked on a lot of them back in the day . Blue engines were the 325 hp and Hemi orange engines found in the 68 and up Performance cars were 335 Hp. . Cars with A/C were a pain to work on .
