Advice for selling tractors - 1953 Golden Jubilee/Ford 5

Hi everyone,

We are settling my Uncle's estate and he has two tractors - a 1953 Golden Jubilee and a Ford 5000 (not sure of the year).

We are in a different state and I'm totally new to tractors - what would be the best way to sell these? He lived in western KY.

They've been kept under a covered parking/shed type area. The GJ has a pretty modern battery in it, but I have no idea if they work or if my Uncle ever used them.

Unless they are really in poor shape, Pictures would help here, you should hire a tractor mechanic to help assess their condition and get them to run. A running tractor is well worth the cost of assessment. There may be a YT person in that area that would give it a go. Jim

Here s some photos. Im not sure how to tell the year of the 5000.

Apparently a friend of my Uncle's said he got them running. But you can tell from the photos they haven't moved in a bit.

Thank you! what does YT refer to? I know it means YouTube, but that doesn't seem right :D

Around here YT is Yesterdays Tractors. good advice here so far. They both look in good shape. They will probably run with a little know how.

10 years ago I bought this Jubilee off
craigslist.

I paid the guy what he had in it in parts and
labor. He had the engine overhauled, new Goodyear
rear tires and a rm660 woods mower. $5k
I don't think I could buy a new RM660 woods
finish mower for $5k.

My Jubilee is retired and parked inside a garage.
My son wants it. It will start on the first
crank.

I had to do a lot of bodywork, rebuild the
upgraded hydraulic pump and did a new paint job.

I don't think my tractor is worth a lot just
because it's a Golden Jubilee.

If you still have a square hydraulic pump, that
makes it worth less. The upgraded hyd pump is a
round pump. I'm not sure if you can still buy
what it takes to upgrade the pump. I think the
upgrade kit was for 1953 and 54 tractors. So if
the 3 pt hitch doesn't work and it has a square
pump, that's not good.

Good tires and an engine that doesn't smoke may
make this tractor worth around $2500 to $3000.

You can advertise on YT or free.

Some people sell tractors on Marketplace or
craigslist.

I wouldn't buy another Jubilee because it has no
live PTO and no power steering. Not the smoothest
riding tractor either.

Here is some actual advice on selling the tractors.

Since you're not there and I'd expect you don't care to drive back and forth every time someone expresses interest in them and wants to go kick the tires, only to hem and haw and offer you $500 for both, I would recommend finding someone local to sell the tractors for you. Local machinery dealer, or an auctioneer. It will cost you a percentage of the sale price, but consider how much it would cost you to travel back and forth repeatedly to deal with people who only want to waste your time.

Talk to the neighbor. Find out if there are any good consignment auctions coming up soon. GOOD auctions, ones that attract large crowds and have a good number of decent tractors. Many consignment auctions are just places where people dump their junk, and everything brings junk price, no matter how good it looks.

Another option is, if a local auctioneer has a monthly online sale. There are three outfits running monthly online auctions in my area alone. Online auctions often realize higher prices because people that are interested can and will bid, whether because they're too "shy" to bid in person, or because they can't make an auction in person.

The 5000 COULD be worth good money....very popular and still a lot of them in use. If it has
the SOS tranny, not a good thing!
