hi everyone, i have a gleaner f which more than sprang a leak in the radiator. managed to find an f2 and took the radiator off of it. not an exact fit but close enough. after cleaning it over and over i put in only to fine out it has a leak at the base of the top tank just under the filler. i'm in a crunch to use it soon so do i ignore it, put the cap on loose or use this stuff that is like a liquid copper. any thoughts or experiences?

HIS IS THE BEST i HAVE EVER USED, BUT IF HOLE OR CRACK IS TOO BIG, EVEN THIS WON'T STOP IT.

We had an off road rock truck that broke the radiator mounts on a Saturday.a little weld job and the mount was fixed. The problem was I could see inside the lower tank where it had rubbed the frame. I bottle of Bars Leak Pellet type, and I ran it for 10 hours before the day was over.

It's never too late to learn to solder, a MUCH better choice for fixing a leak at the radiator neck vs. (nasty) pucky.

I've used black pepper when I was driving 18 wheelers years ago. Sprang a leak while on the Pa Turnpike and another old driver told me to ask the kitchen help at the restaurant if I could have some. Told her what the problem was and she gave me a part of one of their cans (bigger than you would buy for home use). I put it in my radiator and sun of a gun that old driver was right. I don't remember the shop ever repairing that leak. Keith

Ill second the black pepper! I had a John Deere 70 that was leaking water almost as fast as you could pour it in. Several guys in the tractor club said to use black pepper, so I did. Stopped at instantly . This was in 2009. Had to add more pepper a year later and still holding today.

I overhauled a 1070 Case tractor for a neighbor. It had 2 inches of black pepper in the block trying to stop a cracked sleeve from leaking. Crack was at the top...would have taken a lot more to stop it.

I have used a large paper clip and put the clip under the cap so any pressure will force coolant into the overflow bottle. That way I run with no pressure in the radiator and catch coolant.

I would only use a radiator stop leak as a last resort. I had to replace the heater core on a car because the stop leak blocked off the heater core. GRRRRRR. Never again will I try to replace a heater core. I'll let the dealer do the job next time..

I realize our gleaner may not have a heater core, but it could do the same to a radiator.

No substitute for the correct soldered fix. But for stop gap measures to get by then fix the black peper is as cheap as it gets and works well. I've used it on radiators before in the past with good results.

I had a '49 Olds that developed a leaking water pump seal. I was on furlough going home with the trip several hundred miles. On the way I noticed my temp running up and stopped at a service station to get gas and check out the water in the radiator. Since we are talking about the shaft seal, BL pellets (pellets in a liquid) had attempted to seal the leak and there was a length of it about an inch long protruding from the pump's weep hole where it was trying to stop it. A lot more to that story about this but I made it home (to see my future wife almost 50 years) and back to the base.

I have had excellent results with JB Weld on radiators. Remove it and clean the damaged are very well and then JB Weld it. Yes, I know, it s not ideal- but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do

thanks everyone for suggestions and replies. i wound up soldering the crack up just under the filler neck. not pretty but it works. i did write down all the products everyone mentioned and i'm sure will have another opportunity to use them especially the black pepper.
