Built by Herbert Austin's car company as a competitor to the Fordson N of the 1930's, Herbert made a very popular car in the Austin 7 hp and, like Henry Ford, hoped to take the tractor market by storm. Tractor was very well built and powerful but also too expensive for the time and few were sold. He moved production to his factory in France where it was cheaper to produce and had some success in the French market.
Austin Tractor

Those little Austin tractors have always intrigued me, I've never seen one at any show or event, just photos. After the war, my dad bought a '48 Austin, brand new here in Alberta. I remember him telling me that Austins were available to buy but North American built cars not so much. Over the years after that he never said too many good things about his Austin experiences. Mind you, he could drive the most reliable car on the planet into the ground in 2-3 years I remember.
