Carb cleaners

If it is rusty use a dip like glennster said, then put it in vinegar to get rid of rust, wash with hot soapy water after vinegar, then back into the carb cleaner for a bit.

its called gunk buy it at napa or bumper to bumper. pretty expensive already. like around 50.00 a gallon already. that the only stuff i use.best results on a dirty carb soak it overnight. then you wash it with cool water then blow out all passages with air. then check them with wd 40 or what ever you have.

Berrymans is VERY good. I was pretty spoiled with my 30 year old pail of Zepresto... but did not want to lay out $350 for the pail... I was convinced nothing would ever work as good as that. A one gallon can of Berrymans was less than 50$, but that little pail will get spent fast if you are careless with the preliminary cleaning... wash the loose grease off the outside first for maximum output.

I use diluted phosphoric acid I buy from Amazon to stop rust.

I'll soak in PurplePower first. Gets all the dirt and oils off and removes paint. I used to have a gallon of water seal carb cleaner but rarely used it. It worked great but was really nasty stuff, smelled awful and just a drop splashed on a hand or sleeve took weeks to lose the smell. I finally took it to the county's hazardous waste collection.
Glass bead blast if rusty and Chemtool B-12 to flush passages.

Overnight soak in Berrymans, then a trip through the cheap, harbor freight untrasonic cleaner. Hot water,a good splash of purple power. At least that's what my wife says she does to clean carbs! Lots of time with torch tip cleaners, tiny drill bits, carb cleaner spray and compressed air.

Pinesol heated to darn near boiling works pretty darn slick. I heard of the idea on a snowmobile forum. I tried it and it worked great. Another bonus is you can buy pinesol at the dollar store.

I picked up a large crockpot at the thrift store, filled it with Pinesol and leave it on low overnight. Good rinse in a cold bucket of water then poke-n-blow with guitar strings and carb spray always does the trick for me.

Tyme carb cleaner used to be good, haven't had any for a long time, after the bucket rusted through and it all leaked out, so can't say if is still as good as it was 30 years ago. I bought a 5 gallon pail of NAPA brand, wasn't worth taking home. Couldn't begin to do the job that my old bucket of Tyme did.
