Ford 4400 - tuning after change

Hey guys - my 1970 ford 4400 3cyl gas is running again. Its been a fight. Rebuilt carb, changed coil, distributor, wires and plugs all at ounce. Wouldnt start and I tried everything. After swapping old and new parts back and forth, I went to the one thing I thought could not have been the problem. Plug wires. Started right up. What the heck!

Anyways it runs now, but needs lots of tuning. Given I changed distributor and rebuilt carb at same time, what should I fine tune first? Any tips on what I should look for to confirm its tuned right?

Always set your points first , then set the timing then carb last in that order.set ur main jet then the mixture then idle. A change in point gap will change timing a bit. And if the valves have not been set in as while thats also part of a major tune up.

I forgot to say with points u need the wire core plug wires , not carbon core for best results.

Is the next step timing light?

When I did the replacements I did gap test the points and plugs, then installed everything at 0TDC with the points just opening. It runs, but not great. I am attaching a video from today, would appreciate any feedback

Those 3 banger Fords are rather convoluted to time as they use Both mechanical and vacuum to advance the spark.
If you want it to run good you'd best read your I&T FO31 Manual to learn how.
They have a whole paragraph on timing it there.
