If it is set up like a John Deere unit that I have the coil is plugged into a relay usually closed to the bottom of the engine. This relay controls the coil
function for safety purposes. Make sure your safety switches are working properly. Just a thought.

The first thing I would do is remove all rust
from the flywheel.
Second thing: I would set the gap between
flywheel and ignition module by using 3 dollar
bills which is close to 0.10 inches.
Third thing; remove the kill wire.
fourth thing; inspect the spark plug wire and new
spark plug.
Fifth thing; order a new ignition module.

I had the same problem with one I used to have. Bought a new ignition module. Problem solved. The module at that time was a lot cheaper online. Good luck.

Just an extra note on the 14hp Kawasaki engine that I have. The lead wire that is usually the kill wire on most all magneto coil engines. This Lead has to be
connected to run. I too ordered a new coil just to find out with this lead disconnected engine won't run.

Most of those old single cylinder Kawasaki engines had a 'trigger' module on the right side of the engine. its about 3/4 square and has a
mount tab on it and one wire going to it. In all the years I worked on those, I never put a coil on one, but I did change several trigger
modules when there was a no spark issue.
