That earlier post of the grain binder
brought back some memories. Does anyone
know of a firm that can take a vhs tape
that is kind of grainy and restore it? It
was given to me years ago by a son of a
guy that shot a lot of 8mm film. He copied
this to the vhs. What's on it is the stacking
of oats, 16 stacks to be exact, and since
I was there doing it, I can tell you
that, 7 bundles in a shock, 25 shocks on a
wagon and 7 wagon loads to a stack. My
mother's father, taught me as he was the
only one that knew how or remembered. He
was originally from Sask, and was in his
late 80's when this was happening. The
film then covers the threshing, 40 Mpls
with wing feeders driven by our 28hp Mpls
Canadian Speacial. 300' drive belt on it,
as to pull between 8 stacks is pretty
deep. There should be some film of the 30-
60 Aultman Taylor as well. That's what at
13-14 years old, and a younger brother did
in the summer of 65. We did recruit some help,, mostly retired folks that we all knew. At the time it didn't seem that bad, probably cause thats all we knew.

I tried through Wahlgrens one a few months back, but they just sent it back. Kinda wish I would have done something with 10-15 years ago.

Restoring it would take some specialized video editing software. legacybox.com is a good place to start.

If you are simply looking to transfer from VHS to DVD go look for someone who you consider to be a computer geek. Chances are they can do it or know someone who can.

As others have mentioned, there are services that will transfer from VHS to DVD for you. It appears legacybox is one. I live in a population center, and we have a handful of local operations, too. That may be the case in populous areas near you. If you have a significant volume of footage to transfer (which doesn't sound like the case for you), it can get pretty spendy.

If you want to do it yourself, something like the apparatus in the link below should do the trick. If you go that route, however, you probably cannot improve the quality from what it is now.

Good luck.
