Tractor developed fuel issue. Filters new, no water. Runs occasionally. Blows very black smoke. Throttle linkage works fine to what I call a throttle body, but is actually the pump or governor. It will "stick" in full throttle or idle, regardless of what I do with the throttle. Fuel filters are clean, air intake clean. Had run for a few hours since problems developed. Occasionally it will emit a shower of soot. Eventually it goes to idle and stops. Won t start again for days. I was told the "throttle body" or some part of the governor uses weights that use inertia to open or close a fuel valve? And this component may need cleaned or replaced?? Any idea? I m not a mechanic. Thanks.

A diesel engine with restricted air intake can have those symptoms. Check all air filter systems and intake air hoses. Jim

Hello Burl welcome to YT! Not sure what brand of
injection pump you have but it sounds to me like it has
issues and needs to be rebuilt. There is a poster on
here that goes by Dieseltech, he runs a diesel injection
pump shop in Indiana. He has posted in a post a few
posts down I will link the discussion here. His email is
open, I would suggest you contact him for help on your
problem. To see the email button in the bottom of his
reply you need to be logged in. Folks on here ship their
pumps to him for repair. All I ever hear is responses of
how reasonable his prices are and their satisfaction
with the work.
Post to contact Dieseltech
