cancer journey update, off topic

Hello everyone,
I just thought I would let everyone know what I recently found out about my cancer discovery recently. I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer to be exact. It stemmed from acid reflux (severe heartburn) for many years that I neglected to have checked out by my doctor. Apparently this is a very deadly disease! I am going to go through treatment at Mayo clinic in Rochester in Minnesota. Thankfully I live only 2 hours away from Mayo. I don't know the extent of what stage the cancer is in, as I am undergoing more testing at the end of this week to plan out my future journey. Depending on the test results I will have to have radiation chemo and surgery if the cancer has not spread into my major organs. So my life is going to have a massive change in the way I live the rest of my life once treatment starts. I am leaving this in the hands of our good Lord above to guide me through this. I appreciate all the thoughts, prayers and support from all of you on here. I will update as I get more info. My wife did start a CaringBridge page for me if any of you are interested in following my journey. Just go on the internet and type in CaringBridge and search for my name: Kurt Karstens. Thank you everyone for listening.

Make sure you do as much toward your healing as you expect from God. May you have a speedy recovery. Jim

My younger sister went through similar cancer treatments beginning in December 2020. She is now cancer free. She and her husband are enjoying their retirement and travels. Keep a positive attitude, that reduces your stress levels and helps your body cope a lot better.

prayers for you Kurt and your family I have a friend at church who has the same cancer and he has responded well to the treatment so far. His cancer had not moved to other organs. Hopefully yours has not also. I have heartburn and they discovered Barret cells in my esophagus, they can lead to cancer but nothing has progressed yet. I take heartburn medicine (prylosec) everyday. I'm due for an endoscope this fall (every 3 years). I am 75 and in pretty good health so I am trying to keep it that way. Prayers for you for sure.

Praying the best for you, Kurt.

And yes, you are in God's hands... but God created many fantastic doctors who work at Mayo Rochester.

God bless you with a miracle of healing!

You could not be in better hands. I took my dad there 25 years ago for cancer and back then they did amazing work. Thoughts and prayers are with you

Following you on Caringbride... it is a great site!

Our niece-in-law (only 30'ish) just went through bone cancer surgery and chemo at Mayo... we followed her treatments on CaringBridge too.

Prayers sent for your wife and family too.
