Hello,

I am new to the forum. I will be as brief as possible but give all pertinent information that I can. I purchased a case 1194 eight days ago. When i bought it, the guy had a hard time starting it, indicating to me it needed a new battery. I took it home, got a new battery which helped. I also changed the oil and filter, changed the fuel filters and air filter. It was running well at that point. This weekend, I transported it to my land. I hooked it to a sprayer that runs off the pto and it was working fine for a while. Yesterday, it died on me without any warning. I noticed for the 1st time the oil light on the dash. So I immediately checked the oil and it was proper. I will add that when I tried to start it nothing happened not even a click. I towed it back to house about 100 yards away. I tried to start it and it made some noise attempting to start. I figured somehow the battery needed charging and charged it overnight. This morning I got it started and everything seemed fine. I went back out with the sprayer and within 20 minutes it had died again. Same thing nothing when I tried to start it and the oil light was on again. My thoughts are either alternator, or maybe the oil pump. I would appreciate any feedback and I will be responsive to any questions. Thank you.

Problems with the charging system are always a possibility, but that should only affect starter operation. Doubtful any part of it will cause the engine to die while in operation. The fuel system is all mechanical, so once running, nothing electrical is required to keep it running. The oil light. Assuming it's on when the engine is stopped? That's how it should be. It should go out once the engine starts and oil pressure builds up. If it's on with the engine running, that's a different matter.

I would be more concerned about why it stops while you're using it. You replaced the fuel filters. Did you see any evidence of dirty, nasty stuff on top of the elements or in the bowls when you took them off? Did you have any trouble bleeding the system after changing them? Did you make sure not to place any seal rings on top of the elements before you installed them? When you try and start it after it quits on you, do you have to bleed anything (fuel wise) or just get the starter to turn it over again?

Sounds like you have a non-functioning charging system. Bad alternator, wiring, connections etc. That would explain having to charge the battery to start it. As for the stalling, I know nothing about a Case 1194 fuel system. Does it have a fuel solenoid? If so, a dead battery would explain that.

Hello Miss-man welcome to YT! You need to get a meter to read the battery voltage. When you start it and run it full throttle it should read 13 to the lower 14. something volts. Also would not hurt to check the alternator belt tension. A good rule of thumb is that the alternator will have a cooling fan on it right behind the belt pulley. You should not be able to place your thumb against it and get it to turn slipping pulley in the belt. Do you hear a clicking or buzzing sound when the key is turned on? If so this may indicate an electric fuel pump has been installed to replace a none working mechanical fuel supply pump. Since your pump shut off is operated by a cable and not an electrical solenoid this added fuel pump would be a reason for your tractor to quit when the battery runs low. You have not replied with an answer about it having a cab and run electrical equipment, this would explain the fairly quick draw down of the battery if the alternator is not working. Lastly, I would suggest using a good flashlight and look down in the fuel tank to see if there is any crud in there that might be floating over the fuel outlet hole temporarily blocking it.

Hello. The same problem happened again. I do believe now that it is a fuel problem. I put a different fully charged battery on it and could not get it started. In the glass bowl it looks like some debris may be in there. I switched tractors and continued working, but I need to address this. Unsure at this time whether it is something I did when I replaced the fuel filters.

I had some issue getting it to start after putting in the new fuel filters. I believe there were three maybe four gaskets with the new filters. One for the top, one for the bottom, one for the bolt. But once I got it going it seemed to run ok. Until is runs for an extended period.
