I put the battery tester on the alternator and it showed 14. I took the cover off of the regulator and when I pushed on the bar it charged 14 until I let go of it so Ill try replacing the regulator first

ight only need to burnish/clean contacts

super99,

If the contacts were closed, then the need to be cleaned. Better yet, replace the regulator.

By the way, alternator output voltage is just that. Some are marked no voltage.

What's important, and the proper way to check voltage, is at the battery terminals,

Guido.
