Just bought this for our son Joe..... Rear
end sounds dry. What fluid and where do I
add it? Apparently 25+ year old manuals
are not readily available

not familiar with a snapper rider.
If the rear end sounds dry, I'm guessing it is a hydrostatic rear end which the cheapies don't have a way to drain and add oil.

Go to U tube. They may show how to turn the mower upside down to drain fluids.
If left outside, water may be inside the rear end, not good.

I have a pdf of the manual if you send me your e-mail I will try to send it to you.

Found your e-mail in an older post, sent pdf at 7:45 pm central time.

What would help more is a pic of the info placard on the transaxle. Is it Tuff Torq? Peerless? Hydrogear?

I'm familiar with Tuff Torq, but not with the others, so I don't know if any use grease, but Tuff Torq uses oil. In fact, Tuff Torq commonly sends out their K46 transaxles (most popular transaxle on the planet) with 10w-30, although they now recommend using 0w-50 synthetic. I lost most of the oil in my transaxle due to seals going bad, so replaced seals, drained remaining oil, then added 5w-40 (maybe 5w-50, can't remember). I popped the breather off. Super simple!! It HAS to be simple if I did it! *lol*

Anyway, your transaxle has a tag that tells the make and model of the transaxle. THAT is what you need to know in order to service your transaxle properly.
